The Assistant Environmental Health and Safety Manager is responsible for supporting the implementation and continuous improvement of Environmental Health and Safety (EHS), Food Safety, Sustainability, and Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems (OHSMS) within a hospitality environment. The role involves developing and reviewing EHS and food safety manuals, policies, procedures, and documentation, ensuring alignment with corporate standards and regulatory requirements. The position requires active participation in EHS, HACCP, ISO, Sustainability, and OHSMS compliance audits, establishing audit programs, monitoring results, identifying trends, and implementing corrective action plans to maintain full compliance with corporate and regulatory frameworks. The role also involves conducting workplace inspections, leading or supporting incident investigations with root cause analysis, managing documentation related to EHSMS and food safety programs, and monitoring regulatory updates related to environmental protection, occupational health and safety, and food safety laws. The Assistant EHS Manager collaborates with various departments to implement corporate social responsibility initiatives and oversees sustainability initiatives including Rotana Earth programs within the property. The role ensures suppliers and contractors comply with EHS and food safety standards through audits and communication. Additionally, the position supports the development and implementation of OHSMS manuals, procedures, and policies, participates in management review meetings, coordinates training programs for employees, ensures new employees receive task-specific occupational safety training, and reports OHSMS performance to senior management and regulatory authorities. The role includes conducting periodic risk assessments across all operational areas of the hotel, implementing mitigation measures, and ensuring compliance with environmental, health, and safety policies while protecting guests, employees, and the environment.

Key responsibilities
- Develop and review Environmental Health and Safety and Food Safety manuals, policies, and procedures to ensure continuous compliance with corporate standards and regulatory requirements
- Lead or participate in EHS, HACCP, ISO, Sustainability, and OHSMS audits, provide guidance on compliance gaps, and implement corrective action plans to ensure regulatory adherence
- Establish and manage internal audit programs for food safety, occupational safety, and environmental compliance while monitoring results, evaluating trends, and communicating findings
- Conduct incident investigations including root cause analysis, document investigation outcomes, and implement preventive and corrective actions to avoid recurrence
- Assess employee training needs, develop training materials, and conduct Environmental Health and Safety and Food Safety training programs for operational staff
- Ensure suppliers and contractors comply with Environmental Health and Safety and food safety standards through regular audits, inspections, and operational communication
- Monitor regulatory updates related to sustainability, environmental protection, occupational health and safety, and food safety laws and update internal policies, procedures, and documentation accordingly
- Perform regular workplace inspections related to EHS and food safety compliance and implement corrective actions where necessary
- Manage and control documentation including EHSMS manuals, policies, procedures, inspection logs, and compliance reports
- Collaborate with multiple departments to implement corporate social responsibility initiatives and oversee sustainability initiatives such as Rotana Earth programs
- Develop and implement Occupational Health and Safety Management System (OHSMS) policies, procedures, and manuals and monitor implementation through meetings, inspections, and management reviews
- Ensure new employees receive Occupational Health and Safety training relevant to their assigned tasks and maintain training compliance records
- Report Occupational Health and Safety Management System performance to senior management and sector regulatory authorities

Experience & skills
- Hold a college or university degree in Health and Safety, Food Safety, Environmental Science, Sustainability, or a closely related discipline, providing the academic foundation required to understand environmental management systems, occupational health and safety frameworks, and food safety compliance within hospitality or operational environments.
- Possess a minimum of three to four years of professional experience working in Environmental Health and Safety, Food Safety, or Sustainability roles within hospitality operations or other high-risk operational environments where regulatory compliance, workplace safety management, and environmental protection are critical.
- Demonstrate knowledge and practical exposure to international and industry-recognized standards including HACCP, ISO 22000 for Food Safety Management Systems, ISO 45001 for Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems, and broader Environmental Health and Safety Management Systems frameworks used within hospitality or service-sector operations.
- Hold or be capable of obtaining professional certifications related to occupational health and safety or food safety such as NEBOSH, IOSH, ISO 22000, ISO 45001, HACCP certification, or Lead Auditor certification, which are considered strong advantages in supporting compliance audits and management system implementation.
- Demonstrate practical experience participating in or supporting Environmental Health and Safety audits, food safety inspections, sustainability assessments, and occupational safety evaluations, including involvement in identifying non-conformities, performing root cause analysis, and implementing corrective and preventive action plans.
- Possess the ability to develop and deliver Environmental Health and Safety and Food Safety training programs for employees, including preparing training materials, conducting awareness sessions, assessing training effectiveness, and ensuring that employees understand safety procedures and regulatory compliance requirements.
- Be proficient in computer applications and capable of managing documentation systems, compliance reports, inspection records, audit logs, and internal communication related to Environmental Health and Safety Management Systems and Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems.
- Demonstrate effective verbal and written communication skills in English, with additional capability in Arabic considered beneficial, enabling clear reporting to management, coordination with regulatory authorities, and effective communication with multicultural teams and operational departments.
