Job description
The Pavement Engineer (Roads Operations & Maintenance) role at Egis in Doha, Qatar, focuses on pavement data collection, processing, and analysis to support pavement condition assessment, asset management, and maintenance planning projects. The role involves planning and executing automated and manual pavement surveys using technologies such as LCMS-2 systems, laser profilers, imaging systems, GPS, IMU, and DMI sensors. The engineer is responsible for ensuring data integrity, performing quality control and quality assurance (QC/QA), and processing raw data using tools like ROMDAS to extract pavement distress metrics including cracking, rutting, roughness (IRI), and macrotexture. The position also requires transforming raw data into structured datasets, applying severity classifications, managing large datasets, and generating technical reports and visualizations. The role collaborates closely with project managers, survey teams, and pavement engineers to ensure compliance with standards and support engineering decision-making and process optimization.
Required skills
Key responsibilities
- Plan and coordinate pavement data collection activities using automated surveys such as LCMS, laser profilers, imaging systems, and manual visual inspections
- Operate and manage the LCMS-2 system on survey vehicles, ensuring calibration and functionality of sensors including lasers, cameras, IMU, DMI, and GPS
- Perform system checks, calibrations, and troubleshooting of hardware and software issues during field operations
- Ensure integrity and quality of raw data collected and process data using ROMDAS software to extract pavement distress metrics such as cracking, rutting, roughness (IRI), and macrotexture
- Conduct quality control and quality assurance (QC/QA) on processed data to ensure accuracy and consistency
- Transform raw pavement data into structured datasets, perform validation, and apply severity classifications based on project requirements and standards
- Manage and organize large datasets using spreadsheets, databases, and specialized pavement software
- Maintain detailed documentation of data processing workflows, assumptions, and revisions
- Generate technical reports, visualizations, and pavement condition deliverables for stakeholders
- Identify opportunities to optimize data collection, processing, and analysis processes and implement improvements
Experience & skills
- Experience in pavement data collection, processing, or pavement condition assessment projects
- Hands-on experience operating LCMS-2 systems and related survey equipment such as laser profilers and imaging systems
- Knowledge of ROMDAS software and pavement distress analysis including cracking, rutting, roughness (IRI), and macrotexture
- Experience performing quality control (QC) and quality assurance (QA) on engineering datasets
- Proficiency in handling large datasets using spreadsheets, databases, and data processing tools
- Understanding of GPS, IMU, DMI, and sensor calibration processes in survey systems
- Ability to perform data validation, preprocessing, and transformation for engineering analysis
- Experience generating technical reports and data visualizations for engineering stakeholders
- Familiarity with industry standards and methodologies for pavement condition surveys
- Ability to collaborate with project managers, survey teams, and pavement engineers to ensure data accuracy and compliance
