Job description
The Medical Science Liaison (MSL), Rare Disease at AstraZeneca will engage with Key External Experts (KEEs), primarily in haematology and nephrology, to facilitate scientific exchange and support the company’s strategic goals in these therapeutic areas. The role is crucial in shaping the medical strategy by generating insights, delivering non-promotional clinical data, and fostering strong scientific partnerships with major hospitals, healthcare institutions, and non-traditional stakeholders. This position involves acting as a scientific expert internally and externally, delivering education, supporting evidence generation, responding to unsolicited information requests, and enhancing the understanding and accessibility of AstraZeneca’s rare disease treatments.

Key responsibilities
- Build, enhance, and maintain advocacy of Key External Experts (KEEs).
- Engage with stakeholders across hospitals, policy makers, payers, and researchers.
- Map multidisciplinary teams and maturity in institutions and prioritize accounts.
- Provide AstraZeneca with insights into local medical communities and trends.
- Foster scientific partnerships and engage in evidence-based practice change activities.
- Interact with medical communities through projects, trials, and scientific exchange.
- Train speakers, recommend advisory board participants, and present scientific data.
- Facilitate CME events and support region-specific evidence generation.
- Organize scientific events to support patient-centric multidisciplinary care.
- Gather actionable insights and communicate with internal stakeholders.
- Participate in strategic planning and product launch processes.
- Respond accurately to unsolicited requests for scientific information.
- Comply with ethical and regulatory standards in all medical information sharing.
Experience & skills
- Degree in a scientific or clinical discipline (e.g., MD, PhD).
- Minimum 2 years of pharmaceutical industry experience in Medical Affairs, Clinical Development, or Operations.
- Experience as a Medical Science Liaison is preferred.
- Medical writing proficiency and familiarity with medical education and research standards.
- Digitally proficient and fluent in English and local languages.
- Preferably experienced in haematology, nephrology, or speciality care.
