Job description
In this role you will take a lead role in designing, developing, and maintaining robust software solutions at Zain Bahrain across desktop applications, services, APIs, and integrations. You will be responsible for delivering scalable and secure .NET-based systems that align with business requirements, ensuring performance, reliability, and maintainability. You will design, develop, and maintain .NET applications including desktop, console, Windows services, and web-based solutions, leading the development and integration of high-availability APIs and backend services. You are responsible for implementing and maintaining secure and scalable REST and WCF services, and designing and deploying applications on IIS with a focus on performance tuning and load balancing. Your responsibilities include collaborating with business stakeholders to gather, analyze, and refine requirements, translating business needs into functional and technical specifications, and performing impact analysis and solution design. You will troubleshoot application issues, conduct root cause analysis, and implement fixes, optimizing performance of code, database queries, and application behavior. You are responsible for developing and integrating with SQL Server, including tables, stored procedures, functions, and views, and integrating systems with third-party APIs including TCP/IP and WebSocket-based communication. In this role you will conduct code reviews and provide technical mentorship to other developers, lead planning and estimation sessions, and work closely with infrastructure, DevOps, and QA teams to ensure smooth deployments and thorough testing.

Key responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain .NET applications including desktop, console, Windows services, and web-based solutions
- Lead the development and integration of high-availability APIs and backend services
- Implement and maintain secure and scalable REST and WCF services
- Design and deploy applications on IIS with a focus on performance tuning and load balancing

- Lead planning and estimation sessions, and ensure timely delivery of tasks
- Work with version control systems and collaborative development workflows
- Collaborate with infrastructure and DevOps teams to ensure smooth deployments and environment readiness
- Work closely with QA for testing, validation, and bug fixing
- Engage in ongoing reporting, system monitoring, and tuning activities
- Participate in business meetings, requirement workshops, and sprint planning sessions
- Ensure security best practices are followed in application design and implementation
- Stay up to date on industry trends and emerging technologies, recommending improvements to existing systems
Experience & skills
- Hold a bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Computer Science or Programming
- Bring 5 or more years of hands-on experience with .NET (C#), including desktop applications, Windows services, and ASP.NET
- Telecom industry experience is a plus
- Show strong experience with console applications, libraries (DLLs), and service-oriented architectures
- Demonstrate in-depth experience with WCF and RESTful services
- Have experience designing load-balanced, fault-tolerant, and high-availability APIs
- Show experience with version control systems such as Git and collaborative development workflows
- Have experience gathering business requirements, performing impact analysis, and documenting design specs
- Demonstrate strong experience integrating third-party services and protocols such as TCP/IP and WebSockets
- Show solid knowledge of IIS configuration, hosting, troubleshooting, and tuning
- Demonstrate strong proficiency in Microsoft SQL Server, including database design, indexing, stored procedures, PLSQL, and views
- Show proven ability to troubleshoot application, performance, and network-related issues
- Demonstrate excellent communication skills and experience working directly with business users
- Show strong planning and organizational skills, able to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
- Demonstrate understanding of security principles in .NET applications
- Show knowledge of reporting tools and performance diagnostics
