Job description
The Lead Quality Engineer at Cognizant is a senior QA role responsible for designing and implementing automated test frameworks from scratch, managing test execution cycles across web, mobile, and eCommerce platforms, and ensuring software products meet the highest quality standards. The role combines hands-on technical skills with leadership responsibilities, overseeing a team of QA engineers and coordinating between offshore and onsite teams. You will be pivotal in driving quality strategy, reporting metrics to stakeholders, and mitigating project risks. This role demands a deep understanding of automation tools (Selenium, Appium), Agile methodologies, and functional testing practices.

Key responsibilities
- Build automation scripts from scratch and execute them during the test cycles
- Perform API and end-to-end functional testing (Web/eCommerce/Mobile)
- Perform Smoke, Sanity, and Regression testing during test cycles to ensure product quality
- Handle client communication and coordinate between offshore and onsite teams
- Manage a team of 3 QA resources and lead the team as QA Lead
- Analyze client requirements including backend functionalities for thorough test coverage
- Review deliverables before sharing with customers and incorporate review feedback
- Send Daily/Weekly/Bi-weekly status reports to stakeholders
- Identify project risks early, inform stakeholders, and assist in mitigation
- Provide sign-off after successful completion of testing cycles
- Deliver knowledge transfer (KT) sessions for new team members
Experience & skills
- 5–10 years of experience in QA/Testing roles
- Proven expertise in Automation Testing using Selenium and Appium
- Strong experience in API testing and tools like Postman or REST-assured
- Functional testing knowledge for Web, eCommerce, and Mobile applications (Android & iOS)
- Ability to manage and lead small QA teams (minimum 3 members)
- Familiarity with Agile testing methodologies and environments
- Basic to advanced knowledge of database testing
- Experience in delivering client-facing reports and coordinating across time zones
- Exposure to real estate domain is a plus
- Hands-on experience in test case preparation, execution, and defect lifecycle
