Job description
The Head of Procurement (Pharmaceutical / Life Sciences) is responsible for leading centralized procurement strategy, governance, sourcing, and procurement transformation within a large life sciences organization operating in the healthcare and pharmaceutical supply sector. The role drives cost optimization initiatives, procurement analytics, and compliance controls to ensure efficient, transparent, and cost-effective sourcing operations. It standardizes vendor onboarding processes, tendering frameworks, and supplier performance management systems while ensuring alignment with organizational governance requirements. The position leads strategic supplier negotiations and contract management activities to secure optimal commercial terms and ensure continuity of supply. It aligns sourcing strategies with demand planning and supply continuity objectives to support uninterrupted availability of pharmaceutical and healthcare products. The role also focuses on building and leading procurement capabilities within the organization, strengthening governance frameworks, improving stakeholder alignment, and enhancing supplier relationship management across all procurement activities in a highly regulated life sciences environment.

Key responsibilities
- Lead centralized procurement strategy development and execution across pharmaceutical and life sciences sourcing functions to ensure governance, efficiency, and compliance
- Drive cost optimization initiatives by analyzing procurement spend, identifying savings opportunities, and implementing strategic sourcing improvements
- Standardize vendor onboarding, tendering processes, and supplier evaluation frameworks to ensure consistent procurement governance and transparency
- Lead supplier negotiations and contract management activities to secure optimal pricing, terms, and long-term supply agreements
- Align procurement sourcing strategies with demand planning and supply chain continuity requirements to ensure uninterrupted supply of pharmaceutical products
- Develop and strengthen procurement capabilities by building processes, frameworks, and governance structures within the procurement function
- Manage supplier performance and stakeholder relationships to ensure delivery, compliance, and alignment with organizational objectives
Experience & skills
- 10+ years of progressive procurement experience in large-scale organizations, including at least 5+ years in leadership or managerial procurement roles
- Mandatory prior experience working in the pharmaceutical or life sciences industry, preferably in regulated healthcare environments
- Strong expertise in supplier negotiation, procurement governance, sourcing strategy, and contract management across complex supply chains
- Demonstrated ability to manage procurement analytics, cost optimization initiatives, and vendor performance management systems
- Experience aligning procurement and sourcing strategies with demand planning, supply continuity, and operational requirements
- Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to engage senior leadership, suppliers, and cross-functional business units
- Proven capability to build, lead, and develop procurement teams and establish scalable procurement processes and governance frameworks
- Preferred academic background in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Finance, or Pharmacy-related disciplines with strong commercial understanding
