Job description
Amazon Web Services (AWS) Infrastructure Services is seeking a Senior Data Center Facility Engineer to support the design, planning, delivery, operation, and maintenance of AWS global data center infrastructure in Saudi Arabia. The role sits within AWS Data Center Engineering Operations and is a hands-on position focused on operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting world-class mechanical and electrical infrastructure to ensure high availability, safety, and operational excellence. The Senior Data Center Facility Engineer supports servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling systems, applying a process-oriented approach to facility operations while ensuring strict adherence to safety procedures. The role involves maintaining and operating critical electrical and mechanical systems, responding to facility and rack-level events within internal SLAs, performing root cause analysis of equipment failures, driving innovation to reduce operational costs, and ensuring continuous availability for AWS customers. The position requires rotational shift work, on-call support, contractor supervision, and the ability to operate in physically demanding environments including outdoor conditions, noisy areas, and work at heights.

Key responsibilities
- Maintain the highest safety standards and actively foster a world-class safety culture across data center facilities
- Own and remediate safety risks and issues in coordination with cross-functional teams
- Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot critical mechanical and electrical infrastructure within AWS data centers
- Support equipment including UPS systems, switchgear, circuit breakers, automatic transfer switches, diesel generators, chillers, HVAC systems, exhaust fans, variable frequency drives, and transformers
- Operate and maintain emergency generator systems, HVAC systems, and fire and life safety equipment
- Respond to and troubleshoot facility and rack-level events within defined internal SLAs
- Perform root cause analysis on mechanical and electrical equipment failures
- Drive innovation initiatives to improve facility efficiency and reduce operational costs
- Conduct daily operational rounds and log readings including temperatures, voltages, and currents
- Supervise contractors performing servicing and preventive maintenance activities
- Participate in rotational shift schedules including nights, weekends, holidays, and on-call emergency response
Experience & skills
- Hold a Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, project management, construction management, or a similar technical discipline
- Demonstrate knowledge of mechanical systems including HVAC and control systems
- Possess knowledge of key electrical competencies and electrical theory
- Maintain experience or exposure to data center engineering and critical facility operations as an advantage
- Demonstrate familiarity with BMS and EPMS control systems and data collection and trending as a preferred qualification
