Job description
The Turf Engineer in Doha, Qatar is responsible for the planning, maintenance, inspection, and enhancement of natural and synthetic turf across multiple facilities within a large-scale Facilities Management (FM) project. This includes sports fields, parks, landscaped zones, and public spaces, ensuring compliance with international turf standards, Qatar Construction Specifications (QCS), Ashghal requirements, and sustainability goals. The role involves overseeing daily turf inspections, developing and implementing maintenance schedules, monitoring turf health using soil testing and environmental analyses, and ensuring safety, performance, and aesthetic standards are met. Additionally, the engineer manages irrigation systems, optimizes water usage, coordinates with technicians and facility teams, supervises staff and external service providers, manages procurement of turf materials, and prepares technical reports, inspection logs, risk assessments, and corrective action plans. The position requires expertise in turf science, horticulture, soil science, irrigation technologies, and GCC climate management, while enforcing HSE policies and sustainable practices.

Key responsibilities
- Oversee daily inspection, upkeep, and performance standards of natural and artificial turf areas
- Develop and implement turf maintenance schedules including mowing, aeration, dethatching, topdressing, fertilization, and pest/disease control
- Monitor turf health using scientific assessment methods, soil testing, and environmental condition analysis
- Ensure turf surfaces meet required standards for sports performance, safety, and aesthetics
- Manage irrigation systems including scheduling, troubleshooting, and optimization for water efficiency
- Coordinate with irrigation technicians and facility teams to ensure proper system maintenance and uniform water distribution
- Recommend water-saving practices aligned with Qatar sustainability goals
- Ensure compliance of all turf maintenance activities with Qatar Construction Specifications (QCS), Ashghal standards, and international turf standards
- Prepare technical reports, inspection logs, risk assessments, and corrective action plans
- Conduct rootzone analysis, soil nutrient mapping, and turf stress evaluations
- Supervise landscape technicians, groundskeepers, and external service providers
- Coordinate turf preparations for events with facility managers, sports officials, and FM operations teams
- Manage procurement of turf materials, fertilizers, pesticides, and specialized equipment
- Implement safe working practices in accordance with HSE policies and ensure environmentally sustainable operations
Experience & skills
- Bachelor's degree in Turfgrass Science, Agronomy, Horticulture, Agricultural Engineering, or related field
- Certifications in turf management, sports turf maintenance, pest control, or irrigation preferred
- Knowledge of FIFA, USGA, or World Rugby turf standards advantageous
- Minimum 5–8 years of experience in turf maintenance within FM projects, stadiums, sports complexes, golf courses, or large-scale landscapes
- Proven experience managing turf in arid or GCC climates preferred
- Hands-on experience with natural grass care, synthetic turf upkeep, and irrigation technologies
- Strong understanding of turf diseases, pest management, and soil science
- Technical knowledge of irrigation systems, pumps, sprinklers, and related equipment
- Ability to interpret turf performance data and implement improvement strategies
- Leadership, planning, and team management skills
- Ability to work in high-temperature outdoor environments in compliance with Qatar labor and health guidelines
- Valid Qatar driving license or ability to obtain one preferred
- Willingness to work flexible hours based on project and sports schedules
- Familiarity with CAFM systems is an added advantage
