Job description
Shell LNG Marketing & Trading is seeking a Commercial LNG Operator to join its Dubai-based team, responsible for the execution of global LNG trades and deals. This role ensures timely and professional implementation of freight and cargo transactions, working closely with traders, finance, operations, and external stakeholders to ensure obligations under LNG contracts and time charter party agreements are met. The operator will use strong analytical and digital skills to maximize value, reduce operational risks, and drive continuous improvement across Shell's global LNG supply chain. This dynamic role includes out-of-office availability due to 24/7 trade operations.

Key responsibilities
- Ensure that LNG Operations fully complies with Shellâs internal standards including compliance and HSSE, paying special attention to HSSE hazards and risks that may have impact on Shellâs license to operate.
- Ensure that all obligations arising from the contracts are carried out, and that any necessary requirements are complied with.
- Deal with cargo and freight counterparties and terminals on a regular basis regarding all pre- and post-deal activities, ensuring all necessary operational information is passed on in good time and documentary requirements are met.
- Appoint independent inspectors and expeditors.
- Ensure that all operational information is entered into Trading systems.
- Provide guidance and perform the necessary cargo invoicing activities as well as diversion calculation/payments and clearances of accruals for both external and internal deals.
- Carry out all term and spot cargo pricing for all LNG contracts and support supply schedules with third parties.
- Review LNG Confirmation Notices and contracts, influencing the operability of the LNG contracts.
- Liaise with counterparts to ensure smooth operations, avoid delays and minimize demurrage costs.
- Multi-task on priorities and think on own feet to deal with contractual problems ensuring that all are managed professionally and optimally for the trading business.
- Add value by exercising embedded commercial and logistical deal options and pro-active approach to problem solving.
- Carry out contractual volume reconciliations ready for the annual delivery program discussions.
- Manage and ensure that all financial securities are in place.
- Manage internal relationships with Traders, Optimisation Traders, Finance, Shipping and several other teams.
- Manage relationships with external stakeholders, counterparties and service providers such as suppliers and customers, regulatory bodies, inspectors and survey companies.
- Engage with the global freight and cargo operations team members across other hubs to ensure operations process alignment, business continuity and commercial added value opportunities.
- Close out operational related disputes with external and internal counterparts and support less experienced team members.
- Participate and contribute to Continuous Improvement/Operational Excellence projects.
- Collaborate with the cargo and freight operations teams in other regions to resolve issues and ensure global operational alignment.
- Respond flexibly to requests outside of normal office hours as required by global trading operations.
Experience & skills
- Experience in commercial operations, preferably in LNG.
- Strong commercial and analytical skills.
- Ability to apply analytical competencies and critically analyse scenarios for decision making.
- Digitalization-driven with ambition to leverage technologies for commercial operations.
- Understanding of contractual constraints and ability to influence operability.
- Experience managing contractual obligations and financial securities.
- Experience with cargo invoicing, supply schedules, and freight execution.
- Proven ability to deal with conflicting priorities and complex operational circumstances.
- Ability to identify commercial and operational risk and implement changes.
- High level of fluency in English; fluency in Spanish and/or Arabic is advantageous.
- Availability to work flexibly, including outside standard office hours.
- Ability to engage and collaborate across global teams and stakeholder levels.
- Strong initiative and problem-solving mindset with ability to influence stakeholders.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills adaptable to varying audiences.
