Job description
The Power Transformer Engineer – Medium, High, and Extra High Voltage role within Saudi Aramco’s Technical Services Division of the Power Systems Projects & Technical Support Department is responsible for providing highly specialized engineering expertise to support the safe and reliable operation of the company’s electrical power generation, transmission, and distribution networks. Operating within the transformers unit, the role delivers high-level technical advice across the full asset lifecycle of transmission and distribution power transformers, from equipment selection and design through installation, operation, maintenance, repair, condition assessment, and eventual retirement. The position requires deep technical understanding of transformer construction, design practices, manufacturers, diagnostic testing, aging characteristics, corrosion mechanisms, compliance with international standards such as IEC, and participation in industry bodies such as CIGRE, while providing onsite technical support, developing repair work packages, and ensuring adherence to Saudi Aramco standards and material specifications.

Key responsibilities
- Serve as Subject Matter Expert in power transformer equipment failures and repair techniques during root cause investigations
- Perform Root Cause Analysis for critical power transformer equipment failures
- Continuously review and improve power transformer maintenance programs to ensure safe and reliable operation of high voltage assets
- Provide technical consultation to maintenance agencies for identifying and reviewing critical spare parts lists
- Assess the condition of aging power transformers and provide technical recommendations
- Provide technical expertise for troubleshooting transformer failures, repairs, and design suitability assessments
- Deliver engineering input on repair details and provide onsite technical support for critical power transformers
- Develop and review power transformer work packages to ensure compliance with Saudi Aramco standards and material specifications
- Represent the organization in industry forums, professional organizations, and users’ groups related to electrical codes and standards
- Review, update, and ensure familiarity with company and international electrical and transformer standards
Experience & skills
- Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university
- Possess a minimum of 8 years of experience in power transformer operation and maintenance with strong exposure to transformer design
- Demonstrate distinct experience as a transformer specialist through industry conference contributions or employment with leading transformer manufacturers
- Exhibit deep technical expertise in transformer construction and design for distribution and transmission applications
- Demonstrate experience in diagnostic testing, condition assessment, and analysis of transformer aging and corrosion characteristics
- Show familiarity with Factory Acceptance Testing and compliance with IEC manufacturing standards
- Participate as a member of relevant CIGRE Working Groups
- Demonstrate ability to manage multiple priorities and proactively improve processes while supporting safety and profitability objectives
