Job description
Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates learning and development programs for assigned unit/department in collaboration with the area Manager to ensure the competence and ongoing development of staff to support the American Hospital Dubaiās mission and goals, and to meet Joint Commission International Accreditation Standards. Optimizes clinical competence of staff utilizing bedside teaching and acts as a resource to other units/departments as required.

- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing unit orientation and development programs.
- Act as mentor and clinical resource at unit level.
- Conduct formal and informal teaching sessions.
- Develop and implement competency-based assessment programs.
- Maintain computerized database for staff competency and education attendance.
- Provide educational resource services to assigned and additional units.
- Support hospital policies and serve as a professional role model.
- Maintain clinical and professional competency based on current standards.
- Demonstrate knowledge of infection control, pain management, and wound care.
- Ensure safe handling and documentation of narcotics/controlled drugs.
- Promote teamwork and resolve interdepartmental differences.
- Impart critical thinking knowledge to new employees and colleagues.
- Participate in hospital-wide committees, taskforces, and projects.
- Demonstrate time management and organizational skills.
- Engage in quality improvement initiatives.
- Attend nurse management and education meetings.
- Meet annual education requirements and assist in planning departmental competencies.
- Conduct learning needs assessments.
- Select effective teaching strategies for behavioral change.
- Coach and provide feedback to improve staff performance.
- Provide technical assistance in equipment use.
- Foster a culturally sensitive care setting.
Experience & skills
- Minimum three-year Diploma in Nursing (duration not less than three years).
- Bachelor Degree in Nursing preferred.
- Postgraduate qualification in relevant specialty area desired.
- Current license to practice nursing in country of origin and with the DHA.
- Five (5) years current clinical experience in specific area of practice, including critical care and outpatient clinics.
- Two (2) years clinical teaching experience in a clinical environment.
- Recent experience in a JCI-accredited acute care facility desired.
- Computer literacy consistent with the role.
- BLS/ACLS Certifications.
