Job description
Wood is recruiting a Lead Electrical Engineer to join its UAE Business Unit for a major onshore brownfield project in Sharjah in a full-time office-based capacity. The role assumes sole responsibility for assigned electrical engineering work scopes, including performing assurance reviews of electrical packages and detailed design documents generated by third-party EPC contractors, and executing electrical discipline detailed design activities for field development of oil and gas production facilities. The position involves planning, budgeting, organizing, and controlling segments of electrical engineering deliverables; preparing electrical deliverables across all project phases; ensuring work quality and schedule adherence; providing direction and guidance on electrical engineering technical queries; liaising with Client Engineering, Operations, and Maintenance staff; delivering sound technical advice and solutions to diverse discipline problems; coordinating with other disciplines during design development, construction, pre-commissioning, and start-up; assisting coordination of all activities related to electrical engineering design; promoting safe behaviour; and identifying progress/quality concerns with recommended corrective actions. Projects span greenfield and brownfield modifications and integrate low-carbon solutions to support energy transition and emissions reduction goals, delivered for an international client via engineering and project management services, EPC contract management, and Supply Chain, Construction and Commissioning support from Wood Iraq and UAE offices.

Key responsibilities
- Assume sole responsibility for assigned electrical engineering work scopes for a major onshore brownfield project
- Perform assurance reviews of electrical packages and detailed design documentation produced by third-party EPC contractors
- Execute electrical discipline detailed design for oil and gas production facilities across greenfield and brownfield modifications
- Plan, budget, organize, and control segments of electrical engineering deliverables and prepare electrical deliverables for all phases
- Ensure work is completed to required quality and delivered according to project schedule
- Provide direction and guidance on electrical engineering technical queries raised by internal and external parties
- Liaise with Client Engineering, Operations, and Maintenance to ensure a consistent approach to project completion
- Provide technical advice and solutions to a diversity of electrical discipline problems
- Coordinate with other disciplines during design development, construction, pre-commissioning, and start-up
- Assist in coordination of all activities related to electrical engineering design
- Promote safe behaviour at all times
- Identify progress or quality concerns and recommend corrective actions
- Support integration of low-carbon solutions aligned with energy transition and emissions reduction goals
Experience & skills
- Degree qualification in Electrical Engineering
- Specialist experience in 132kV overhead transmission line and switchgear design, with site installation support to the contractor
- Experience in primary/secondary substation design to 6.6kV, with site installation support to the contractor
- Minimum 15 years’ experience in the oil and gas industry
- Minimum 6 years’ proven capability in an engineering design company
- Experience participating in EHAZOP, ETAP, HAZOP, HAZID, and SIL rating studies
- Experience working with multi-national and multi-cultural project teams (strongly preferred)
- Previous Middle East experience (advantage)
- Familiarity with typical software packages used for electrical engineering design
- Thorough awareness of relevant international codes and standards
- Membership of a recognized professional institute (preferred)
