Job description
Wood's Oil, Gas & New Energies business is growing across the eastern peninsula region, and this Commercial Lead in Abu Dhabi helps make sure that growth actually pays. Working under limited supervision, you cover both sides of the contract, from pre-award commercial review of tender documents and pricing to post award administration and close-out. Tender governance for the sub-Business Group runs through this role, alongside compliance with the DOA and Wood's commercial and contracting policies. Project commercial plans, subcontracting commercial strategy and profit improvement plans are developed and maintained here. Cost analysis is regular and practical, aimed at maximising recoverable costs, minimising disallowable ones and keeping accruals and provisions in place. On the contract side, Bonds / LoCs, collateral warranties, PCGs and letters of intent all need approving and administering correctly. Claims come in both directions, so gathering and analysing data to pursue or defend them, with in-house legal where required, is part of the work. Senior leadership and key clients across the region rely on your commercial insight, and a team of commercial staff looks to you for development. Expect to bring 6 to 10 years in a similar role, including 5 years in the Middle East, with proven contract administration and change management experience.
Required skills
Key responsibilities
- Direct pre-award activities, including commercial review of tender documents, review of commercial proposals, pricing and commercial qualifications
- Manage all activities within the tender governance process for the assigned business
- Develop and implement project commercial plans, subcontracting commercial strategy and profit improvement plans
- Maintain project-specific and sub-Business Group DOAs, ensuring all commercial DOA matters are correctly approved and documented
- Analyse costs regularly to maximise recoverable costs, minimise disallowable costs, find savings and secure adequate accruals and provisions
- Prepare project forecasts and cashflow forecasts in conjunction with the project team
- Oversee post award administration, including contract set-up, accurate invoicing with full contract entitlement, rate reviews and contract variations
- Approve and administer Bonds / LoCs, collateral warranties, PCGs, exclusive arrangements and letters of intent in line with policy
- Coordinate contract reviews and qualifications/redlines with the Contracts function to balance risk against the remuneration model
- Shape contractual negotiation strategies with contracts, the bid team and key stakeholders
- Compile subcontract documents, including main contract flow downs, pricing and payment terms, before execution
- Pursue Wood's assertive claims and defend claims against Wood, interfacing with in-house legal when required
- Resolve disputes, claims and cash collection issues
- Deliver main contract and subcontract close-out requirements while optimising Wood's commercial recovery
- Represent commercial interests in internal project reviews
- Embed commercial governance and assurance across the sub-Business Group, projects and portfolio
- Champion the Financial Management Framework guidelines and safety leadership behaviours
- Build team members' commercial and cross-functional expertise
- Identify regional growth opportunities and partnerships with senior leadership and key clients
