Job description
The Manager of Adults Unit is responsible for leading and managing adult programming and reference services within the Public Engagement division, ensuring the development and delivery of high-quality, inclusive, and community-responsive services that support lifelong learning, enrichment, and equitable access to knowledge for adult audiences. The role oversees planning and implementation of adult programs and services in alignment with the Children and Young Adults unit to ensure the library functions as a responsive and vibrant hub for adult patrons. The position involves strategic planning with the Director, budget management, policy and procedure development, community engagement, service assessment, and partnership building. The role also contributes to the library profession through publishing, presenting, professional participation, and committee service while maintaining awareness of trends, developments, and issues in library services and public engagement.

Key responsibilities
- Lead and manage adult programming and reference services within the Public Engagement division
- Plan and implement adult programs and services in alignment with the Children and Young Adults unit
- Collaborate with the Director on strategic planning and execution of community engagement initiatives aligned with organizational strategic objectives
- Ensure appropriate utilization and management of departmental budgets and business plans
- Develop and implement innovative and engaging community initiatives with a focus on cultural and Qatari resources
- Develop and deliver adult services including reference services, reader’s advisory, writing services, digital literacy, media literacy, and access to library resources
- Oversee program and service assessment and adapt offerings based on community feedback
- Ensure excellent customer service delivery for adult patrons
- Develop, implement, evaluate, and maintain policies, procedures, operational plans, programs, and service standards
- Establish and develop partnerships with local organizations to expand program reach and impact
- Evaluate community needs, interests, and trends to ensure relevant and responsive offerings
- Stay informed on developments, trends, and issues relevant to adult library services and public engagement
- Contribute to the library profession through publishing, presenting, or participation in professional organizations
- Serve on internal and external committees across the library, Qatar Foundation, and the wider community
- Participate in outreach programs supporting research, education, and community needs
- Manage, lead, and develop the team to ensure a supportive, inclusive, and high-performance working environment
- Perform other duties as assigned
Experience & skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Library or Information Science accredited by the American Library Association
- Master’s degree in Library or Information Science preferred
- 8–10 years of professional library experience in an academic, research, or metropolitan public library
- Proficiency in MS Office applications
- Strong written and oral English and Arabic language proficiency, with native Arabic speakers required to hold high IELTS or TOEFL scores
