Job description
The Duty Manager Line Maintenance at Etihad Airways in Abu Dhabi is responsible for overseeing aircraft line maintenance operations while maintaining full certification privileges under the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) to certify aircraft as fit for service. The role involves deputizing for the Senior Manager Aircraft Maintenance (L&L) in their absence and acting as a key operational leader within the maintenance environment. The Duty Manager communicates directly with the Maintenance Control Center (MCC) controller or MCC Duty Manager regarding incoming aircraft defects and coordinates appropriate corrective actions with engineers. The position maintains continuous communication with on-site Field Support Engineers to ensure accurate feedback on both new and existing defects. Responsibilities include certifying maintenance tasks performed by self and others in accordance with approved aircraft maintenance data and authorization scope, ensuring proper documentation and paperwork completion according to company procedures, and verifying that aircraft effectivity and the latest maintenance data revisions are used prior to maintenance actions. The role coordinates and controls line maintenance shift operations, ensures compliance with company, airport, health and safety regulations, and organizes staffing levels to support daily operational schedules. The Duty Manager prepares accurate shift allocations with the Aircraft Maintenance Supervisor, ensuring appropriately certified personnel are assigned to aircraft types and critical maintenance tasks during ground time. Additional responsibilities include maintaining cleanliness and order in technical facilities such as GSE and tool store areas, managing the IT maintenance library to ensure updated revisions of documentation are used, promoting workplace discipline, and demonstrating professional conduct with internal and external customers. The position also oversees the implementation of the Safety Management System (SMS), conducts formal risk assessments for operational changes, ensures safe working conditions for employees, promotes safety awareness and quality work practices, manages incident responses to minimize injuries or operational loss, and ensures timely reporting according to airworthiness regulations. The Duty Manager also monitors the training currency of supervised staff to prevent certification expiry and supports employee involvement in the continuous development of Etihadâs safety culture. The role operates within a busy hub operations environment supporting Etihad Airwaysâ global flight network and contributes to maintaining operational reliability, safety, and regulatory compliance for aircraft maintenance activities.

- Certify aircraft as fit for service by verifying maintenance tasks are completed in accordance with approved aircraft maintenance data and within the authorized certification scope
- Communicate directly with the Maintenance Control Center (MCC) controller or MCC Duty Manager to address incoming aircraft defects and coordinate corrective actions with maintenance engineers
- Maintain close coordination with Field Support Engineers to provide accurate technical feedback on new and existing aircraft defects
- Complete maintenance documentation and paperwork accurately and on time in accordance with established company maintenance procedures
- Ensure all maintenance activities comply with company policies, airport operational procedures, health and safety requirements, and aviation regulatory standards

- Prepare and issue shift allocations together with the Aircraft Maintenance Supervisor, ensuring certified personnel are assigned to appropriate aircraft types and key maintenance tasks
- Maintain adequate staffing levels and identify personnel for technical and professional development opportunities
- Ensure cleanliness and operational readiness of technical facilities including ground support equipment (GSE) and tool store areas
- Maintain the IT maintenance library and ensure operators use correct and updated technical documentation revisions
- Implement Safety Management System (SMS) processes, conduct formal risk assessments for operational changes, and promote safety awareness and compliance
- Manage maintenance-related incidents, ensure correct reporting according to airworthiness regulations, and minimize employee injuries and operational losses
- Monitor employee training currency and certifications to prevent overdue qualifications and maintain regulatory compliance
- Provide leadership and coordination with internal teams, supervisors, engineers, and external stakeholders to maintain safe and efficient aircraft maintenance operations
Experience & skills
- Possess a High School leaving Certificate or education to a university or college degree level
- Hold a valid Aircraft Maintenance Engineering License convertible to General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) certification with minimum two Etihad aircraft types at Level 3
- Demonstrate a minimum of 10 years of aircraft maintenance experience including at least 3 years in a supervisory role within aviation maintenance operations
- Show practical experience working in aircraft line maintenance within a busy hub operations environment supporting high aircraft movement
- Demonstrate capability to manage and supervise teams of aircraft maintenance engineers and supervisors while coordinating shift activities
- Exhibit strong stakeholder management capabilities with the ability to collaborate across internal departments and external partners
- Possess strong communication and interpersonal skills necessary for coordination with MCC controllers, engineers, and operational teams
- Demonstrate the ability to create and support engaging safety promotion materials that reinforce safety culture and compliance
- Maintain proficiency in using digital tools and systems to create, manage, and distribute operational and safety-related content
- Show comprehensive knowledge of airworthiness regulations, Safety Management System (SMS) practices, and aviation safety compliance requirements
