Job description
The Senior Engineer (Piping Layout) at Wood will join the Engineering team within the Oil, Gas & New Energies business based in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. This position focuses on delivering high-quality piping design and layout engineering for complex energy projects, ensuring compliance with technical, safety, and quality standards. The role demands strong expertise in developing piping deliverables such as piping material specifications (PMS), data sheets, layouts, plot plans, general arrangement drawings (GADs), and isometric drawings. The engineer will be responsible for conducting pipe layout analyses, supporting stress design activities, and ensuring alignment with client specifications and international standards. Collaboration across multiple disciplinesâmechanical, civil, structural, and electricalâis key to ensuring seamless integration of project deliverables. The position requires hands-on experience with Caesar II software for stress analysis and proficiency in applying relevant codes and practices. Reporting to the Lead Piping Engineer, the Senior Engineer will manage assigned scopes within budget and schedule constraints, provide weekly progress updates, and support project execution from concept to detailed design. Key responsibilities
- Work independently under the Lead Piping Engineer to deliver assigned piping design and engineering activities within schedule and budget.
- Develop and review key piping deliverables including Piping Material Specifications (PMS), Material Datasheets, Piping Layouts, Plot Plans, General Arrangement Drawings (GADs), and Isometrics.
- Ensure piping layout scope and deliverables meet required levels of technical safety, quality, and project standards.
- Perform pipe layout analyses and contribute to the design of piping systems and supports.
- Apply expertise in pipe stress engineering and ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and client specifications.
- Coordinate with other engineering disciplines to integrate design inputs and ensure consistency across project deliverables.
- Review client-provided data and incorporate feedback into design documentation.
- Check project piping isometrics to confirm that stress analysis comments have been incorporated accurately.
- Prepare weekly progress reports detailing work status, issues, and required actions.
- Collaborate closely with the Lead Piping Engineer and project teams to ensure timely, quality-driven delivery of piping design packages.
Experience & skills
- Bachelorâs degree or equivalent qualification in Engineering or a related field.
- Minimum 10 years of professional experience in the oil and gas industry with proven expertise in piping layout engineering.
- Strong proficiency in Caesar II software for pipe stress analysis and design validation.
- Conversant with applicable industry codes of practice, engineering standards, and statutory regulations.
- Experience producing and reviewing piping deliverables including layouts, GADs, isometrics, and material specifications.
- Proven ability to coordinate effectively with multidisciplinary teams to meet delivery targets.
- Strong technical acumen with an emphasis on safety, quality, and compliance in design execution.
- Ability to work under minimal supervision while ensuring accountability for deliverables and performance.
- Excellent communication and reporting skills for interfacing with project leads and stakeholders.
- Prior experience in large-scale oil, gas, or energy infrastructure projects within EPC or consulting environments preferred.
