Job description
The Senior Legal Counsel role within UBS provides comprehensive legal support to the Global Wealth Management business across the Middle East region. The position operates within UBS Group Functions and is based in Dubai, working closely with legal colleagues across EMEA, Switzerland, and APAC. The role involves delivering strategic and practical legal advice on a wide range of banking and wealth management products and services, including regulatory, commercial, governance, compliance, corporate matters, and financing transactions. The role requires drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a broad spectrum of contracts and transaction documentation, supporting strategic initiatives and cross-border projects, ensuring compliance with regional legal and regulatory frameworks, managing relationships with external counsel, and continuously improving internal legal processes and templates in a fast-paced, dynamic international banking environment.
Required skills
Key responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive legal support for the Global Wealth Management business across the Middle East region
- Advise on regulatory, commercial, governance, compliance, corporate matters, and financing transactions
- Draft, review, and negotiate a wide variety of contracts and transaction documents
- Collaborate with legal colleagues across multiple jurisdictions to ensure alignment and consistency
- Manage and oversee relationships with external legal counsel
- Improve and standardize internal legal processes and documentation templates
- Support strategic initiatives and cross-border projects while ensuring compliance with regional legal and regulatory requirements
Experience & skills
- Minimum of 8 years post-qualification experience as a corporate or regulatory counsel within an international bank, financial institution, or reputable global law firm
- Law degree with qualification to practice in a relevant jurisdiction
- Experience combining private practice and in-house banking or financial services legal roles
- Strong regional knowledge of Middle East legal and regulatory frameworks
- Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic international environment
- Strong analytical capability applied to legal and regulatory matters
- Proven ability to work independently under pressure with shifting workloads
