Job description
The Associate Commercial Director – Careem Market (Grocery Segment) is a senior leadership role responsible for shaping and executing the commercial strategy of a major grocery category (Fresh, Packaged Food, or Non-Food) within Careem’s high-growth dark store grocery business. Reporting directly to the Head of Grocery, the role includes end-to-end ownership of assortment planning, pricing architecture, promotional strategy, supplier partnerships, and full P&L management. The Associate Director will lead and mentor a high-performing team of Category Managers and Pricing Analysts, while closely collaborating with Product, Operations, Marketing, and Finance teams to deliver an optimized and localized grocery offering. This role requires strong experience in category management or procurement within grocery or consumer goods, and a track record of leading commercial teams in fast-paced environments such as startups, e-commerce, or consulting. Data-driven decision-making, excellent communication, and customer obsession are key to success. The role is based in Riyadh with a hybrid working model and includes regional scope and strategic impact.
Required skills
Key responsibilities
- Set and execute the end-to-end commercial strategy for a key grocery segment including assortment, pricing, and promotions
- Customize assortment strategies for local markets based on neighborhood preferences, trends, and analytics
- Own full P&L responsibility for the segment, managing revenue, margins, and cost structures
- Build and maintain strategic relationships with suppliers and partners, leading contract negotiations and unlocking growth opportunities
- Use performance dashboards to track KPIs, assess supplier effectiveness, and identify growth levers
- Recruit, mentor, and manage a team of Category Managers and Pricing Analysts
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Product, Operations, Marketing, and Finance to align strategies and deliver customer-centric experiences
Experience & skills
- Have 8–10+ years of experience in category management, procurement, or commercial strategy in grocery or consumer goods
- Demonstrate prior leadership experience managing high-performing commercial teams
- Possess strong strategic thinking and analytical capabilities with a data-driven approach
- Exhibit excellent communication skills and ability to influence internal and external stakeholders
- Display a customer-first mindset with a passion for simplifying everyday experiences
- Be comfortable working in dynamic, high-growth environments and willing to take a hands-on approach
