Job description
The Senior Planning Engineer is responsible for managing and overseeing project planning and scheduling activities to ensure alignment with company policies and project requirements. The role focuses on developing and coordinating project schedules during proposal and execution phases while maintaining data integrity and accuracy in scheduling systems. The engineer monitors schedule progress, analyzes performance metrics, identifies risks or delays, and implements corrective actions to maintain project timelines. The position also includes managing schedule changes, overseeing resource and capacity planning, and supporting project teams with planning expertise. Additionally, the Senior Planning Engineer mentors junior planning engineers, ensures quality control within planning processes, and supports the Planning Manager by acting as a deputy when required. The role requires strong expertise in planning tools such as Primavera P6 and Microsoft Project, along with knowledge of engineering and oil and gas construction environments.

Key responsibilities
- Coordinate development of planning schedules for both proposal and execution project phases
- Review schedule content regularly to ensure data accuracy and integrity
- Analyze schedule progress and identify risks, delays, or performance issues
- Implement corrective actions to maintain project timelines and milestones
- Manage schedule changes according to approved procedures and project governance
- Produce schedule performance metrics and progress reports
- Oversee capacity planning and resource allocation within project schedules
- Develop and maintain relationships with internal teams and external stakeholders
- Provide guidance and training to planning engineers on scheduling best practices
- Ensure quality control within planning activities and processes
- Act as deputy for the Planning Manager when required
- Attend and facilitate project and planning meetings
Experience & skills
- 5–10 years of planning experience in engineering or manufacturing environments
- Minimum 2 years of experience in a senior planning role
- Strong knowledge of MRP and ERP systems
- Understanding of oil and gas construction techniques
- Proficiency in planning software including Primavera P6 and Microsoft Project
- Strong interpersonal and team leadership skills
- Ability to manage, mentor, and coach planning engineers
- Proven effectiveness in team leadership and stakeholder coordination
