Job description
The Category Development Officer is responsible for supporting the execution of category and trade marketing initiatives across multiple channels including Modern Trade, Traditional Trade, and Wholesale. The role ensures strong in-store presence, proper execution of planograms, adherence to visibility standards, and compliance with product placement guidelines. Responsibilities include coordinating with field teams for timely execution, deploying POS materials, monitoring promotional activities, and collecting and analyzing sales data, market trends, and in-store execution feedback. The officer prepares reports on category performance, promotions, and visibility, identifies performance gaps and opportunities, and provides insights to optimize future plans. The position requires cross-functional collaboration with Sales, Trade Marketing, Supply Chain, and Marketing teams to ensure product availability for promotions, alignment on campaigns, and communication between head office and field teams. Additional duties include building promotional calendars, tracking execution timelines, preparing presentations and business cases, maintaining accurate records of trade activities, budgets, and performance tracking, and ensuring timely follow-up on action plans and deliverables. The role is essential in bridging planning and execution, translating strategic category plans into actionable in-store results, supporting data-driven decision making, and ultimately driving category growth and visibility across all retail channels.

- Implement category plans across all relevant channels, ensuring consistent execution according to defined strategies and objectives
- Maintain in-store excellence by overseeing planogram adherence, optimal product placement, and ensuring compliance with visibility standards
- Coordinate with field teams to monitor daily execution, resolve on-ground challenges, and provide guidance to maximize sales performance
- Assist in organizing and executing trade marketing initiatives, including promotions, campaigns, and deployment of POS and visibility assets across retail locations
- Track the effectiveness of promotional activities, analyze performance metrics, and provide recommendations to improve future campaign efficiency and ROI
- Collect, analyze, and interpret sales, market, and competitor data to identify trends, gaps, and opportunities for category development and growth
- Prepare and present detailed reports on category performance, promotions, and visibility to senior management, highlighting insights and actionable recommendations
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Sales, Supply Chain, and Marketing, to ensure seamless product availability, alignment on campaign execution, and effective communication between head office and field teams
- Support the development of promotional calendars, track execution timelines, and ensure timely delivery of action plans, while maintaining accurate records of all trade and marketing activities
- Assist in preparing business cases, presentations, and internal reports that support strategic decision-making, budget allocation, and evaluation of trade initiatives
- Monitor inventory levels and coordinate with Supply Chain to prevent stockouts during promotional periods, ensuring uninterrupted product availability
- Continuously evaluate the effectiveness of category strategies and in-store execution, recommending improvements to processes, tools, and methods to enhance sales performance
- Ensure that all marketing and promotional materials are properly implemented and displayed in stores in accordance with company standards and brand guidelines
- Actively participate in field visits and audits to maintain high-quality standards, provide coaching to sales teams, and enforce compliance with operational guidelines
Experience & skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Sales, or a related field, with a solid understanding of FMCG industry dynamics
- 1–3 years of professional experience in Sales, Trade Marketing, Commercial roles, or related positions within FMCG or consumer goods industries
- Demonstrated experience in supporting category management, sales planning, forecasting, promotional execution, and in-store marketing activities
- Strong analytical and numerical skills, including the ability to collect, interpret, and present sales, financial, and market data to inform decision-making
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for data analysis, reporting, and visualization, and Microsoft PowerPoint for presentations and business case development
- Deep understanding of retail channels, in-store execution standards, planogram compliance, and route-to-market dynamics in both Modern and Traditional Trade
- Experience in coordinating cross-functional teams, ensuring alignment between Sales, Marketing, Trade Marketing, and Supply Chain for effective campaign execution
- Ability to evaluate promotion performance, identify gaps and improvement areas, and provide actionable recommendations to optimize category and trade strategies
- Knowledge of POS deployment, visibility standards, promotional calendars, and execution tracking, with a focus on delivering measurable business impact
- Strong comprehension of trade marketing principles, sales processes, and commercial acumen, enabling proactive problem-solving and continuous improvement in category execution
- Ability to communicate effectively in Arabic and English, both written and verbal, for collaboration with field teams, management, and external stakeholders
- Demonstrated organizational skills to manage multiple priorities, timelines, and operational tasks while maintaining high accuracy and attention to detail
- Experience in maintaining accurate records of budgets, trade activities, performance tracking, and reporting to ensure transparency and accountability
- Proven capability to support the preparation of internal reports, presentations, and business cases that aid in strategic decision-making and resource allocation
- Understanding of market trends, competitor activities, and consumer behavior to guide category strategies and in-store initiatives
