Job description
The Senior BMS Engineer will support metro station enhancement projects across the Middle East within Mott MacDonald's transportation and infrastructure division. The role involves ensuring all Building Management System (BMS) works, including controllers, field devices, and communication networks, comply with project specifications, RTA standards, and integration requirements with SCADA, fire alarm, HVAC, electrical, ELV, and other subsystems. The engineer will oversee installation, integration, configuration, testing, commissioning, and operational handover of BMS systems into existing metro operational networks. Responsibilities include reviewing material submittals, method statements, shop drawings, as-builts, and interface control documents, conducting FAT, SAT, SIT, and pre-commissioning activities, verifying BMS logic, alarms, trends, graphics, and sequences of operation, coordinating interface workshops with contractors and vendors, and maintaining comprehensive documentation of inspections, test results, interface resolutions, and engineering changes. The role also ensures adherence to Health and Safety standards, national and international regulations, and industry best practices, supporting handover including O&M documentation and operational staff training.

- Ensure BMS works comply with project specifications, RTA standards, and interface requirements with SCADA, fire alarm, HVAC, electrical, ELV, and other subsystems
- Oversee installation, integration, and configuration of BMS controllers, field devices, and communication networks
- Conduct technical review of material submittals, method statements, shop drawings, as-builts, and interface control documents (ICDs)
- Attend and approve Material and Site Inspection Requests to ensure all works align with approved designs and IFC documents
- Oversee integration of BMS systems with the existing metro systems Operational Control Centre (OCC) and coordinate with stakeholders
- Monitor and inspect BMS system installation works on site for quality, safety, and compliance with approved designs
- Coordinate interface workshops with contractors and specialist system vendors to resolve integration issues
- Support FAT, SAT, SIT, pre-commissioning, and commissioning activities
- Verify BMS logic, alarms, trends, graphics, and system sequences of operation for all associated mechanical and electrical equipment
- Identify and report non-conformances and ensure timely closure with corrective actions
- Maintain comprehensive documentation of inspections, test results, interface resolutions, and engineering changes
- Liaise with metro operator, contractors, consultants, and internal technical teams to ensure operational readiness
- Ensure all works comply with relevant standards such as ASHRAE, NFPA, Dubai Civil Defence requirements, and UAE authority regulations
- Support handover activities including as-built reviews, O&M documentation, and training for operational staff
- Ensure Health and Safety standards are observed per approved plan, national and international standards, escalating issues and promoting a culture of safety first
Experience & skills
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics/Instrumentation Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline
- Experience in BMS, controls, or system integration roles, ideally within rail, metro, airport, or large-scale infrastructure projects
- Strong knowledge of BMS platforms including Siemens, Honeywell, Schneider, Johnson Controls
- Knowledge of communication protocols such as BACnet, Modbus, and OPC
- Proven experience integrating BMS with HVAC, electrical systems, fire alarm, SCADA, ELV, and other station subsystems
- Familiarity with interface management processes, FAT/SAT/SIT procedures, and commissioning workflows
- Understanding of industry standards including ASHRAE, NFPA, Dubai Civil Defence requirements, and UAE authority regulations
- Technical documentation, reporting, and analytical experience
- Ability to coordinate multidisciplinary engineering and site teams
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced project environment and manage complex system interfaces
