Job description
ABB Motion builds motors, generators and drives that keep industrial processes running efficiently and safely, and this Senior Field Service Engineer keeps that equipment working across the Eastern Region. Reporting to the Service Manager, RMDR, you'll check the installation and commissioning of newly installed low voltage ABB drives such as ACS880, ACS580, ACS800, ACS550, ACSM1, DCS500 and ACS350, reporting results back to the customer, the ABB installed base and the service manager. Faulty medium voltage and low voltage drives, including the ACS1000, ACS2000, ACS5000, ACS6000 and ACS580 MV, need servicing, with faulty boards, IGBTs and thyristors ordered and replaced and warranty cases reported to the manufacturer. Preventive maintenance runs across the full drive portfolio, and sizing, selecting and configuring drives happens through ABB software including Drive Window, Drive Studio and Drive Size, matched to each customer's machine and control scheme. Customer satisfaction, claims, recommendations and technical issues all get reported to BU management, and this role contributes directly to promoting ABB products and growing drive sales. System interface engineering supports drive upgrade and retrofit projects as well as new installations, backed by root cause analysis whenever a customer failure needs explaining. Testing, commissioning and troubleshooting extend to medium voltage variable frequency drives such as the ACS6000 and ACS6080, and ACS500 PLC troubleshooting sits within this engineer's expertise. The role calls for certification under ABB Motion Upskills, comfort working under pressure, and a willingness to travel to remote sites for extended periods.
