Job description
The Construction Superintendent role is responsible for overseeing and coordinating all on-site construction activities for large-scale, high-profile Oil & Gas projects within Woodâs Oil, Gas & New Energies business in Abu Dhabi. The position ensures that construction projects are executed safely, on time, within budget, and in strict accordance with design specifications, contractual requirements, quality standards, and environmental and safety regulations. The role carries accountability for projects or project subsets with values exceeding USD 500 million and involves total construction field effort management, including contractor deliverables, installation, commissioning, and completion of materials and equipment. The Construction Superintendent applies Woodâs construction management procedures to ensure continuity, consistency, quality assurance, and reliable control, while working closely with engineering teams to influence design for optimum constructability. The role includes managing cost and schedule performance, coordinating manpower and field resources, ensuring compliance with HSE standards, conducting site inductions, toolbox meetings, inspections, and risk controls, managing supply and logistics of equipment and subcontractors, addressing industrial relations matters, and supporting energy transition, decarbonisation, and electrification project objectives across onshore and offshore Oil & Gas developments.

Key responsibilities
- Oversee total construction field effort to ensure projects are constructed in accordance with design, specifications, budgets, schedules, and contractual requirements
- Manage construction and contractor-related deliverables across assigned projects or disciplines, including projects exceeding USD 500 million in value
- Supervise all construction areas on small projects or specific disciplines or subsets on large projects
- Execute construction activities in line with company operating policies, principles, and quality standards
- Manage and control project cost and schedule for assigned construction disciplines or site scopes
- Oversee installation, commissioning, and completion activities for materials and equipment
- Coordinate field personnel work schedules to maximize utilization and ensure timely delivery of work
- Monitor work progress and report performance against approved construction plans
- Define, communicate, and enforce safety, quality, and environmental responsibilities for all workers within areas of control
- Ensure all personnel receive appropriate training, health and safety inductions, and site-specific inductions to perform work legally and safely
- Initiate and manage safety, quality, and environmental processes including toolbox talks, inspections, and risk identification and control
- Utilize commercial processes to capture and manage construction variations effectively
- Coordinate supply, delivery, and logistics of equipment, subcontractors, consumables, accommodation, and project-specific resources in line with contract specifications
- Manage and report industrial relations matters impacting construction sites as required
- Collaborate with engineering teams during design phases to influence design for optimum constructability
Experience & skills
- Hold a degree in a relevant discipline with a minimum of 15 years of Oil and Gas industry experience
- Demonstrate at least 5 years of experience on major capital projects exceeding USD 500 million with a strong focus on Construction Management and Site Management
- Possess experience within an Oil and Gas operating company, which may substitute for major capital project experience
- Be willing to travel extensively for multi-week periods and adjust work location based on project needs
- Be qualified to obtain CICPA clearance and a UAE work visa
- Demonstrate proficiency in construction management, cost and schedule control, commissioning, quality assurance, and HSE compliance
