Job description
The Shift Senior Technician SMP is responsible for executing and supervising mechanical maintenance activities in the Steel Melting Plant to achieve operational targets including minimizing plant downtime, increasing mill availability, and controlling spare parts consumption with cost consciousness. The role involves executing scheduled day-to-day maintenance, preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, and major mechanical repairs on Steel Melting Plant equipment to optimize production output. The position requires hands-on responsibility for prompt troubleshooting during mechanical equipment breakdowns, identifying root causes, and supporting corrective action and maintenance-related development works. The role includes attending mechanical maintenance problems during breakdowns, communicating abnormalities to superiors, conducting equipment inspections in line with engineering principles and safety regulations, and supporting uninterrupted steel production. The technician follows mechanical maintenance standards, safety, quality, health, and environmental management policies, prepares sample working drawings for fabrication jobs, secures Permit to Work for the team, and leads a group of Technicians and Welders by providing instruction and guidance. The role demands technical knowledge of predictive and preventive maintenance of SMP equipment, troubleshooting expertise, understanding of engineering drawings, rigging and slinging knowledge, and basic computer literacy, along with experience working in a steel plant mechanical maintenance environment.

Key responsibilities
- Execute scheduled day-to-day maintenance, preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, and major repairs of Steel Melting Plant mechanical equipment to optimize production and minimize downtime
- Troubleshoot mechanical equipment breakdowns, identify root causes, and support corrective action and maintenance-related development works
- Attend and resolve mechanical maintenance problems during breakdowns in the Steel Plant and communicate abnormalities to superiors for planning and rectification
- Inspect equipment to ensure compliance with engineering principles and safety regulations during maintenance-related development works
- Assist and support superiors in all technical areas of the Steel Making Plant to ensure smooth mechanical maintenance and uninterrupted production
- Implement and follow mechanical maintenance standards for all equipment in the Steel Melting Plant
- Comply with all safety, quality, health, and environmental management policies and procedures applicable to maintenance activities
- Lead and supervise Technicians and Welders by providing instructions, guidance, and participation in maintenance-related development works
- Prepare sample working drawings for fabrication jobs as required
- Prepare and secure Permit to Work documentation for the maintenance team
Experience & skills
- Hold an I.T.I. qualification in Mechanical Fitter trade
- Possess a minimum of 5 years of experience as a Technician or Fitter in a Steel Plant environment
- Demonstrate 2–3 years of experience in mechanical maintenance of a Steel Plant in a Senior Technician role
- Exhibit technical knowledge of predictive and preventive maintenance of Steel Melting Plant equipment
- Demonstrate strong troubleshooting skills for Steel Melting Plant mechanical equipment
- Understand and interpret engineering drawings accurately
- Apply knowledge of rigging and slinging practices during maintenance activities
- Maintain basic computer literacy for maintenance-related tasks and documentation
- Communicate effectively in spoken and written English, including report writing
- Demonstrate capability to lead a multinational, multi-skilled workforce in a steel plant maintenance environment
