Job description
The Consulting Director - Retail Industry Expert at Visa will serve as a subject matter expert in the retail sector, with a strong focus on grocery, general retail, and everyday spend categories. The role is positioned within Visaās Merchant Service Line consulting practice and is responsible for shaping, expanding, and executing retail-focused consulting strategies that leverage electronic payments and data analytics to drive business growth for clients. The position involves leading engagements, developing client proposals, conducting workshops, and delivering tailored solutions that address complex operational, commercial, and strategic challenges within the retail industry. The director will collaborate with cross-functional teams including Product, Risk, Digital, Managed Services, and regional/global units to design and deliver innovative solutions. The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise across retail customer management (CRM, loyalty programs, servicing channels), back-office operations (ERP, HR, finance), and end-to-end retail optimization strategies. This role requires strong analytical ability, client engagement skills, and a proven background in consulting and retail industry leadership. As part of Visaās global consulting group, the Director will operate in a āstartupā modeābuilding capabilities, scaling the consultancyās retail offering, and driving thought leadership through best practice insights and data-driven innovation across CEMEA markets.

Key responsibilities
- Lead the development and ongoing evolution of Visaās retail consulting strategy within the Merchant Service Line.
- Provide deep subject matter expertise across the retail sector, especially in grocery, high street, and everyday spend categories.
- Collaborate with clients to identify business challenges and opportunities using payment solutions and data insights.
- Develop, manage, and deliver consulting engagements that address strategic and operational retail objectives.
- Build and maintain relationships with retail partners to understand evolving market needs and align consulting solutions accordingly.
- Drive the development and scaling of Visaās consulting offerings for retail, including data services, co-branded programs, and value-added services.
- Conduct workshops and executive-level presentations for clients, demonstrating actionable insights and thought leadership.
- Collaborate with internal teams across Product, Risk, Digital, Managed Services, and regional/global functions to integrate multidisciplinary expertise into client solutions.
- Continuously monitor industry trends, market dynamics, and best practices to ensure Visa maintains a leading advisory position.
- Support business development through proposal writing, client presentations, and development of new consulting frameworks.
- Contribute to the training and upskilling of colleagues in retail consulting practices and client delivery excellence.
- Ensure client satisfaction through high-quality project execution, clear communication, and measurable business impact.
Experience & skills
- Bachelorās degree required; Masterās degree preferred.
- At least 10ā12 years of experience in the retail industry with strong expertise in grocery and general retail sectors.
- Minimum 5 years of consulting experience, preferably with a top-tier consulting firm.
- Experience combining in-house retail leadership roles and external consulting engagements.
- Comprehensive understanding of retail customer and commercial aspects, including CRM, loyalty, and servicing channels.
- Knowledge of operational and back-office systems such as ERP, HR, and Finance platforms.
- Deep expertise in payments, data utilization, and electronic transaction optimization for retail growth.
- Highly analytical with advanced skills in PowerPoint and Excel for client presentation and data analysis.
- Strong project management capabilities and ability to deliver complex engagements on time.
- Exceptional communication, facilitation, and presentation skills with credibility at senior executive levels.
- Proven financial acumen and commercial awareness with a focus on results and client value.
- Ability to work effectively in cross-functional and multicultural environments.
- Self-motivated, independent, and comfortable working in a dynamic, startup-like environment.
- Willingness to travel frequently across CEMEA regions for client engagements and workshops.
- Fluency in English required; additional language skills advantageous.
