Job description
Guidelines from the Central Bank of the UAE, the Higher Shari'ah Authority (HSA) and the Internal Shari'ah Supervision Committee (ISSC) shape the work of this Shari'ah Compliance Lead within Internal Shari'ah Controls. The role is hybrid and based in the UAE. Islamic banking products, transactions, processes and operations come under regular Shari'ah review, and any non-compliance is reported and followed through to remediation. Business units turn to you for Shari'ah guidance, and internal documents are reviewed for compliance before they go live. Senior management and committees receive Shari'ah compliance reports, backed by well-kept records of reviews, findings and corrective actions. An annual Shari'ah review plan sets the schedule. Products, Sales, Operations, Compliance and Risk are regular partners, and customer complaints on Islamic banking matters sometimes need your input. Expect to bring at least 5 years in Shari'ah compliance, Shari'ah audit or Islamic banking, a CSAA, CPSS, CIBAFI or equivalent certification, and strong English and Arabic drafting skills.
