Job description
The Lead Planning Engineer is responsible for leading the planning and scheduling function within Oil, Gas & New Energies projects based in Abu Dhabi. The role involves preparing baseline project schedules, Engineering Documents Deliverables Registers (EDDR), progress measurement systems, S-Curves, manpower histograms, project calendars, and EPC implementation schedules using standard productivity norms and logics. The engineer is responsible for weekly, monthly, and MIS progress reporting, cost reporting based on earned value management, resource planning, and organization staffing plans. The position also includes schedule risk analysis using Primavera Risk Analysis, construction and fabrication knowledge application, cost estimation, and contribution to change management and extension of time claims. The Lead Planning Engineer acts as the focal point for engineering discipline leads on scheduling and progress issues, identifies potential project problems, develops mitigation plans, updates schedules, trends, and forecasts, and supports project management decision-making.

Key responsibilities
- Prepare Planning Packages including baseline project schedules, EDDR, progress measurement systems, S-Curves, manpower histograms, and project calendars
- Prepare weekly progress reports, monthly progress reports, and MIS reports
- Prepare planning documents for proposals including bid schedules, manpower deployment plans, manpower histograms, and S-Curves
- Prepare weekly cost reports based on earned value management
- Develop EPC implementation schedules using standard productivity norms and logics
- Prepare organization staffing plans and resource planning documents
- Analyze project risks and develop mitigation plans
- Update and maintain accurate schedules, progress statistics, S-Curves, and forecasts of trends
- Act as focal point for engineering discipline leads regarding scheduling and progress issues
- Identify and report potential project problems in all phases to Project Management
- Contribute to change management processes by analyzing and reporting schedule impacts
- Review and understand all relevant project documentation including scope of services, conditions of contract, and project execution plan
- Assist management in decision making and perform any other support functions as directed
Experience & skills
- Bachelorβs Degree in Engineering
- Minimum 15 years of experience in Engineering Planning, Cost Estimation, or Quantity Surveying including Feasibility, Concept, Pre-FEED, FEED, and Detail Engineering Projects
- Proficient user of Primavera, MS Project, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS Access, and MS Word
- Advanced skills in MS Excel, MS Access, and Python
- Experience in preparation and negotiation of extension of time claims
- Cost estimation skills
- Schedule risk analysis using Primavera Risk Analysis
- Construction and fabrication knowledge
