Job description
The Civil/Structural Engineer will be responsible for the engineering design and detailing of civil and structural works for oil and gas projects within Woodâs UAE business unit. Based full-time on-site in Sharjah, this role supports onshore capital projects, including both Greenfield and Brownfield modifications, as part of a larger portfolio focused on energy transition and emissions reduction goals. The engineer will perform design, analysis, and detailing tasks using specialized engineering software and ensure that all work complies with relevant international and American codes, standards, and company procedures. The position involves preparing design calculations, specifications, and drawings, ensuring technical accuracy, quality, and safety compliance. The role also requires hands-on experience with STAAD and Foundation Design Suite for analysis and design, along with model review proficiency in Navisworks, SP3D, E3D, PDS, or PDMS platforms. The engineer will be responsible for preparing and reviewing engineering deliverables, assisting with cost and schedule management, and ensuring adherence to project quality and HSE systems. Regular collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, clients, and internal stakeholders is essential to ensure effective communication, proper documentation, and successful project execution.

- Perform engineering design and detailing of civil and structural works for oil and gas projects
- Develop specifications, design bases, and project documentation according to industry standards
- Design foundations for rotating and dynamic equipment with accuracy and compliance to project objectives
- Ensure all designs adhere to relevant international and American codes, standards, and regulations
- Use STAAD and Foundation Design Suite software for structural analysis and design tasks
- Conduct 3D model reviews using Navisworks, SP3D, E3D, PDS, or PDMS software
- Prepare design calculations and documentation, including XL-based spreadsheets where applicable
- Maintain technical quality of work while achieving safety and environmental performance standards
- Support project planning, budgeting, and cost control processes for assigned scopes of work
- Identify and report scope or schedule changes per the established Change Control Process
- Provide technical assistance and mentorship to discipline personnel as required
- Ensure work compliance with Woodâs Health, Safety, Environmental, and Quality systems
- Participate in design reviews, quality checks, and coordination meetings with clients and consultants
- Keep up to date with evolving technical standards, industry practices, and legislative requirements
- Review and approve design outputs and ensure proper discipline documentation and filing
Experience & skills
- Bachelorâs degree (B.Sc.) in Civil or Structural Engineering from an accredited institution
- Minimum of 5 years post-graduate experience in civil/structural engineering within the oil and gas industry
- Demonstrated experience in design and detailing of rotating equipment and dynamic foundations
- Strong proficiency in STAAD and Foundation Design Suite for structural analysis and design
- Experience in model review using Navisworks, SP3D, E3D, PDS, or PDMS platforms
- Familiarity with American codes, standards, and international engineering regulations
- Proficiency in preparing design calculations, specifications, and technical deliverables
- Ability to maintain high technical quality, meet safety standards, and ensure compliance with HSE policies
- Knowledge of project cost control, planning, and scheduling principles
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with cross-disciplinary teams
