Job description
The Specialist Technical Development (Polymer Products - MEAF Region) role at OQ Refineries and Petrol is responsible for supporting technical development for polymer products across the Middle East and Africa region. The position operates within OQās Global Marketing - Application Market Development and Technical Service function, focusing on product innovation, quality, and market alignment. The role entails executing customer visits, providing technical documentation, and resolving technical complaints to drive the success of polyethylene and polypropylene products. The Specialist collaborates closely with R&D, sales, marketing, operations, and quality assurance teams to ensure product competitiveness and regulatory compliance. The position emphasizes product research, testing, and experimentation to enhance performance, market positioning, and customer satisfaction. The role involves developing training materials, conducting customer and distributor training, participating in certification and compliance processes, and supporting product trials. It also covers market research, trend analysis, and coordination with internal departments like Supply Chain, Process Optimization, and QC/QA Labs, as well as external entities such as customers, universities, third-party labs, licensors, and vendors. Responsibilities include ensuring adherence to Omani government standards, HSE regulations, and international best practices while maintaining innovation and alignment with the organizationās mission, vision, and strategic goals. The job requires extensive travel across the MEAF region and regular use of digital platforms and IT systems for documentation and reporting.

- Lead and contribute to the technical development of polymer products, collaborating with R&D teams to innovate and enhance product offerings.
- Conduct research, design experiments, and test new formulations or technologies to improve product performance and meet customer needs.
- Provide technical support to internal teams, customers, and stakeholders regarding polymer products, resolving technical inquiries and troubleshooting issues.
- Stay informed about market trends, customer preferences, and competitor activities to identify opportunities for product differentiation and strategic positioning.
- Collaborate with marketing teams to develop product positioning strategies and ensure alignment between technical capabilities and marketing messaging.
- Develop and conduct technical training sessions for sales teams, distributors, and customers to enhance product knowledge and selling capabilities.
- Work closely with quality assurance teams to ensure polymer products meet quality standards and regulatory requirements in target markets.
- Participate in regulatory compliance efforts including product testing, documentation, and certification processes.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including R&D, marketing, sales, operations, and quality assurance to align technical and business objectives.
- Identify and implement opportunities for continuous improvement, cost optimization, and process efficiency in technical development.
- Manage technical development projects, set timelines, coordinate activities, and track progress against milestones.
- Engage customers to gather feedback on polymer products, analyze needs and preferences, and identify areas for enhancement or new product development.
- Communicate project updates, technical requirements, and resource needs to stakeholders and ensure on-time project delivery.
- Ensure compliance with OQ policies, HSE standards, and applicable government and industry regulations.
- Coordinate with internal and external partners to drive innovation and maintain product competitiveness in the global market.
Experience & skills
- Bachelorās degree in Engineering, Chemistry, or a related field.
- 5ā8 years of relevant experience in the chemicals or polymer industry, particularly in downstream operations.
- Experience in R&D, technical marketing, or application development.
- Strong technical background in polymer products, especially polyethylene and polypropylene.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications for documentation and reporting.
- Knowledge of polymer products, processes, applications, and uses within customer environments.
- Understanding of OQ product functionalities and parameters in various applications.
- Experience in quality assurance and regulatory compliance for polymer products.
- Ability to conduct product testing, certification processes, and provide technical support to customers.
- Strong analytical, planning, and reporting skills with the ability to work across multiple functions and regions.
- Fluency in English is required; local language proficiency is advantageous.
- Ability to travel across the Middle East and Africa region for customer visits, trials, and technical support.
- Experience collaborating with third-party labs, universities, licensors, and vendors in technical development projects.
- Demonstrated ability to implement continuous improvement initiatives and drive innovation in product development.
