Job description
The Director ā Communications at Mastercard, based in the United Arab Emirates, is a senior leadership role responsible for defining and executing the communications strategy for East Arabia, covering the UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman, Pakistan, and Afghanistan. Reporting to the East Arabia Marketing & Communications Lead, the Director will drive integrated communications programs that advance Mastercardās business priorities, strengthen its reputation, and maintain stakeholder trust. The role encompasses external and internal communications, media relations, crisis management, digital and social media strategy, executive visibility, CSR storytelling, and event communications. It involves partnering closely with divisional leadership and cross-functional teams to ensure consistent messaging across earned, owned, and shared channels, and alignment with Mastercardās global communications framework. The position also oversees proactive reputation management, employee engagement, and digital storytelling to position Mastercard as a trusted technology partner in an inclusive, digital economy. This role demands a dynamic leader with proven multinational communications experience, strong stakeholder management skills, and fluency in both English and Arabic.
Required skills
Key responsibilities
- Own and execute the East Arabia communications strategy and narrative aligned with Mastercardās business objectives
- Provide strategic counsel to senior leadership on reputation management, executive positioning, and stakeholder engagement
- Lead proactive external communications, including media relations, influencer engagement, and thought leadership initiatives
- Develop and manage executive visibility programs and ensure consistent messaging across all public communications
- Oversee issues and crisis management protocols in coordination with Legal and Public Policy teams
- Lead employee engagement programs, internal campaigns, and leadership communications such as speeches and town halls
- Manage the East Arabia social media strategy and enhance Mastercardās digital storytelling and executive presence
- Plan and execute communications for major customer engagements, CSR initiatives, and industry events
- Ensure governance and adherence to Mastercardās brand and communications policies
- Manage communications agencies, budgets, and performance tracking through KPIs including share of voice, sentiment, and engagement
Experience & skills
- Possess extensive experience in corporate communications, preferably within multinational financial services or technology organizations
- Demonstrate fluency in both English and Arabic
- Show a proven track record in strategic communications, media relations, and reputation management
- Exhibit strong collaboration and stakeholder management skills within complex, matrixed environments
- Possess excellent presentation and storytelling abilities with proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (PowerPoint, Word, Excel)
- Be a self-starter with high motivation, creativity, and resilience
- Demonstrate capability in leading cross-functional initiatives and managing multiple communication streams simultaneously
- Have experience managing external agencies, communication budgets, and performance metrics
