Job description
The Rare Disease Sales Manager at AstraZeneca is responsible for leading and expanding the Rare Disease commercial footprint in Saudi Arabia. This role plays a critical part in deploying and adapting global brand strategies to the local market, ensuring strong execution aligned with franchise objectives. Reporting to the Franchise Head, the Sales Manager leads, coaches, and develops a team of Product Specialists to achieve ambitious sales targets while maintaining the highest ethical and compliance standards. The role focuses on driving patient identification initiatives, strengthening stakeholder relationships, analyzing competitive dynamics, and collaborating cross-functionally with Medical and Marketing teams. Operating in a high-growth therapeutic area with significant unmet medical needs, the Sales Manager contributes to shaping AstraZeneca’s leadership position in Rare Diseases within the Kingdom.

Key responsibilities
- Lead and manage the sales team for the assigned Rare Disease therapeutic areas, including staffing, organization, and field activity planning
- Develop and execute sales plans aligned with brand strategy, identifying key opportunities and required tactical actions
- Analyze competitive landscape and market dynamics to maximize opportunities and mitigate risks
- Drive patient identification initiatives and support programs that address gaps in the patient journey
- Manage and optimize assigned budgets to deliver on business objectives while maintaining cost discipline
- Coach, train, and develop Product Specialists to enhance performance, capabilities, and ethical standards
- Implement structured performance management processes and facilitate individual development plans
- Collaborate closely with Medical and Marketing teams to ensure effective brand execution and feedback loops
- Build and maintain strong relationships with Key External Experts (KEEs) and healthcare professionals
- Ensure all activities are conducted in full compliance with company policies, Code of Conduct, and local regulations
- Provide timely reporting and insights on field performance, business trends, and strategic adjustments
Experience & skills
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in pharmaceutical sales
- Strong understanding of patient journey and patient-centric engagement strategies
- Proven pharmaceutical commercial experience with consistent performance achievements
- Demonstrated leadership capability with experience managing or coaching teams
- Strong relationship-building skills with healthcare professionals and physicians
- Excellent communication, influencing, and negotiation skills
- Experience in specialty therapeutic areas such as endocrinology, rheumatology, oncology, or neurology is advantageous
- Ability to work autonomously within a matrix organizational structure
- Strong analytical capability to interpret market and competitive data
- Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to challenge the status quo constructively and drive change
- High ethical standards with commitment to compliance and corporate governance
- Ability to influence, contract, and lead transformation initiatives effectively
