Job description
The Head of Inclusion at GEMS United Indian School ā Abu Dhabi is responsible for leading and supporting inclusive education practices across the school to ensure the academic, social, and emotional needs of students are met. The role involves close collaboration with the SENDCo to implement and monitor Individualised Education Plans (IEPs), collecting and interpreting specialist assessment data to inform inclusive teaching practice, and monitoring individual teaching sessions against IEP targets alongside the Pastoral Leader. The position supports the whole-school Teaching and Learning policy with a focus on inclusive teaching, promotes best practice through peer observations and external school visits, and incorporates critical thinking, problem-solving, and inquiry-based learning strategies into instruction. The Head of Inclusion builds strong relationships with students and families, supports student socialāemotional well-being, establishes clear classroom routines, maintains high expectations for behaviour and academic work, and ensures strict adherence to school policies related to discipline, safeguarding, student welfare, and the GEMS Code of Conduct. The role requires proficiency in digital tools and educational technologies for instruction and assessment and full compliance with safeguarding requirements including UK-enhanced DBS or equivalent police checks.

Key responsibilities
- Collaborate with the SENDCo to implement, monitor and review Individualised Education Plans (IEPs)
- Collect, analyse and interpret specialist assessment data to inform inclusive teaching and learning practices
- Monitor individual teaching sessions against student IEP targets in coordination with the Pastoral Leader
- Support and implement the school Teaching and Learning policy to promote inclusive education
- Provide and facilitate opportunities for peer observation and inter-school visits to share best practice
- Create and maintain a supportive, inclusive and stimulating learning environment
- Incorporate critical thinking, problem-solving and inquiry-based learning strategies into daily instruction
- Establish clear classroom routines and maintain high expectations for behaviour and academic performance
- Build strong relationships with students and families to support academic progress and well-being
- Ensure student safety, welfare and safeguarding at all times in line with school policies
- Uphold all GEMS policies, procedures and the Code of Conduct consistently
Experience & skills
- Hold a recognized and relevant qualification in Special Education
- Possess a minimum of 2 yearsā proven experience in the respective subject area with strong subject knowledge
- Demonstrate experience working with Individualised Education Plans (IEPs) and inclusive education frameworks
- Show ability to collaborate effectively with SENDCo, pastoral leaders, teachers and families
- Demonstrate proficiency in the use of digital tools and educational technologies for instruction and assessment
- Maintain effective communication skills appropriate for working with students, parents and staff
- Demonstrate commitment to safeguarding, student welfare and inclusive practice
- Hold or be eligible for a UK-enhanced DBS or equivalent police background check as a condition of employment
