Job description
The Director of Sales is responsible for leading, directing, and motivating the hotel sales team to achieve and exceed annual sales budgets while ensuring alignment with the Commercial Director’s strategic vision. The role involves full responsibility for managing sales operations, revenue and expense budget planning, and ensuring adherence to management standards and quality guidelines across Leisure, Corporate, and Group segments. The Director of Sales prepares and submits sales reports, call schedules, monthly performance reports, and ensures that all sales personnel operate with defined targets and incentive structures. The role includes formulating sales strategies, monitoring account balances, maintaining strong customer relationships, and ensuring timely follow-up on business opportunities. The position also requires overseeing cross-selling initiatives across Kempinski Hotels, managing global sales office relationships, attending international trade fairs and roadshows, and maintaining awareness of market trends and competitor activity. The Director of Sales is accountable for performance tracking, sales forecasting, reservation system optimization, and ensuring efficient handling of group and individual bookings. Additionally, the role involves supervising corporate rate structures, managing account databases, supporting promotional campaigns, and coordinating closely with other departments to ensure guest satisfaction and operational alignment. The Director of Sales acts as deputy to the Commercial Director in their absence and provides leadership, mentoring, and performance management to the sales team while driving business growth, customer acquisition, and long-term relationship development in a luxury hospitality environment.

Key responsibilities
- Lead, direct, and motivate the sales team to achieve and exceed yearly sales budgets
- Assist in preparation and control of annual revenue and expense budgets with the Commercial Director
- Develop and implement sales strategies and operational procedures to meet financial targets
- Prepare and submit sales call schedules, reports, and monthly performance reports
- Set and monitor individual sales targets, plans, and incentive structures for sales personnel
- Monitor account balances and ensure timely follow-up on outstanding department accounts
- Conduct sales performance reviews and implement corrective actions to improve results
- Oversee Leisure, Corporate, and Group sales segments and ensure effective execution
- Ensure timely response to all sales inquiries within 24 hours
- Manage relationships with global sales offices and key corporate clients
- Represent the hotel at trade fairs, roadshows, and international sales events
- Conduct competitor and market analysis to identify business opportunities
- Supervise group and individual bookings, reservations, and rate quotations
- Coordinate cross-selling initiatives across Kempinski Hotels
- Support onboarding and development of sales team members
- Act as Commercial Director in their absence and assume full departmental responsibility
Experience & skills
- Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or Sales
- Minimum 3 years international experience in a managerial sales role within 4/5 star hotels
- Strong negotiation and selling skills
- Experience in hospitality sales including leisure, corporate, and group segments
- Knowledge of hotel operations and service procedures
- Strong organisational and leadership abilities
- Ability to develop and manage sales teams
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
- Experience with Micros Fidelio Opera and Sales & Catering systems
- Strong communication in a multinational environment
