Job description
This role provides end-to-end strategic legal counsel and support to Mastercardās Consumer Products and Processing, with emphasis on issuer-processing and pre-paid management services. The mandate covers collaborating with business teams to bring consumer products to market, structuring and negotiating commercial agreements with acquirers, issuers, merchants, payment service providers and ecosystem partners, advising on product development and contractual issues, and coordinating across data privacy, intellectual property, anti-trust, regulatory affairs, public policy, franchise, and services business lines. The position requires working with internal and external regulatory counsel to ensure compliance with laws and government regulations affecting Mastercardās consumer products. The role includes monitoring legal and regulatory trends that may impact product strategy, implementing process improvements, supporting global and regional product initiatives, developing project plans, trackers, and training materials, and providing training to internal stakeholders. It also requires contributing to broader Core Payments legal team projects and ensuring adherence to Mastercardās information security requirements, including confidentiality, integrity of data, and mandatory security training obligations.

Key responsibilities
- Collaborate with the business to bring Mastercard consumer products to market and scale
- Structure, draft and negotiate commercial agreements with customers, partners, merchants, acquirers, issuers and payment service providers
- Provide legal advice on product development, commercial issues and contractual matters
- Work cross-functionally with data privacy, intellectual property, anti-trust, regulatory affairs, public policy, franchise and services teams
- Work with internal and external regulatory counsel to ensure compliance with laws and regulations
- Advise business teams on legal and regulatory trends that may impact product strategy
- Implement improvements and efficiencies in the product development process
- Develop strong relationships with product, business, sales teams and senior management
- Assist with creating project plans, trackers, training materials and guides
- Provide training to business clients and law department colleagues
- Support projects across the broader Core Payments legal team
- Abide by Mastercardās security policies and practices and ensure confidentiality and integrity of accessed information
- Report suspected information security breaches and complete mandatory security trainings
Experience & skills
- Be a qualified lawyer with a solid academic background
- Have experience working on complex legal projects at a reputable law firm and as an in-house counsel
- Possess experience in the payments ecosystem, preferably with a focus on technology
- Demonstrate a global mindset and ideally in-house experience within a multinational company
- Show strong communication skills for engagement with demanding stakeholders
- Be a fast learner capable of understanding complex and evolving products and legal challenges
- Be able to work flexibly under pressure and meet tight deadlines
- Be willing to take on varied responsibilities supporting team, department and company
- Be able to work independently and collaboratively and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
