Job description
The Systems Management Specialist supports implementation and ongoing operations of hosted and managed application environments, with a focus on InterSystems TrakCare. Responsibilities include supporting deployment of TrakCare builds/releases/patches in line with defined processes and procedures; monitoring, reviewing, and reporting service level metrics and taking corrective actions on issues or negative trends; validating operational acceptance criteria during handover from delivery teams to operations; and providing technical support across hosted services to ensure timely incident/problem resolution and to deploy approved changes and updates. The role performs hands-on administration and maintenance of hosted servers and related infrastructureâcovering firewalls, switches, and storageâwith proactive remediation of potential incidents; tracks server issues, troubleshoots and remedies hardware problems, and manages RMA with vendors; delivers technical troubleshooting and performance analysis for implementations; supports and tests TrakCare internal/external utilities (e.g., patching tool, print service); monitors and responds to technical team calls via the TRC logging system; and assists Presales with technical requests such as architecture, configuration, and hardware sizing. The specialist produces technical documentation (system administration guides, reference materials, installation instructions, user guides, knowledge-base articles, how-toâs), participates in on-site technical training as required, and owns scripting, maintenance, and verification of backups. Required expertise spans Linux server administration and shell scripting; VMware vSphere 6.5 with vCenter; service monitoring/alerting (Nagios); recent 24x7 production support; complex troubleshooting; primary server administration (installs, upgrades, day-to-day operations); creation of support documentation and coordination of service handover; building servers to Group standards with high reliability/redundancy and documenting builds; implementation planning and change records; cross-team coordination to move services through testing to production; and installing/configuring/managing InterSystems CachĂ© and its scripting language. Value-add capabilities include L2/L3 networking, Avamar & DataDomain, Cisco UCS blades, load balancing (F5 BIG-IP), configuration management (Puppet/Chef), strong scripting (Perl, Python), VMware certifications (e.g., VCP), and ServiceNow.

Key responsibilities
- Support deployment of TrakCare builds, releases, and patches according to approved processes and procedures
- Monitor, review, and report service level metrics regularly and initiate corrective actions for issues or negative trends
- Validate that operational acceptance criteria are met for solutions handed over from delivery teams into operations
- Provide technical support for hosted services, ensuring timely incident and problem resolution and deploying approved changes/updates
- Administer and maintain hosted servers and related infrastructure (firewalls, switches, storage) with proactive remediation of potential incidents
- Track, troubleshoot, and resolve server hardware issues and manage RMA processes with vendors
- Perform technical troubleshooting and performance analysis for implementations
- Support and test TrakCare utilities (e.g., patching tool, print service) to ensure operational readiness
- Monitor and respond to technical team calls via the TRC logging system
- Assist Presales with technical inputs on architecture, configuration, and hardware sizing
- Produce technical documentation including system administration guides, installation instructions, user guides, knowledge-base articles, and how-to documents
- Participate in on-site technical training activities as required
- Own scripting, maintenance, and verification of backups to meet recovery objectives
- Administer Linux servers, execute shell scripts, and manage day-to-day operations, installations, and upgrades
- Configure and administer VMware vSphere 6.5 with vCenter, including resource management and high-availability setups
- Implement and maintain service monitoring and alerting (Nagios) and respond to alerts to protect SLAs
- Create implementation plans for new services, raise change records, and coordinate change execution
- Build servers to Group standards with high reliability and redundancy; document builds for standards confirmation
- Coordinate across technical project teams to move services through testing to production and support service projects during development
- Install, configure, and manage InterSystems Caché databases and utilize Caché scripting for operational tasks
Experience & skills
- Good knowledge and experience with Linux server administration and shell scripting
- Good knowledge and experience with VMware vSphere 6.5 and vCenter configuration/administration
- Experience with service monitoring and alerting tools (Nagios preferred)
- Recent 24x7 production support experience with proven complex troubleshooting capability
- Primary administration of servers including installations, upgrades, and daily operations
- Experience creating production support documentation and coordinating service handover to technical support
- Ability to build servers to Group standards with high reliability/redundancy and document the build
- Experience creating implementation plans for new services and raising change records
- Experience supporting service projects during development and coordinating multi-team testing to production
- Experience installing, configuring, and managing InterSystems Caché databases and familiarity with the Caché scripting language
- University degree or equivalent work experience
