Job description
The Materials Engineer is responsible for ensuring that all materials used in infrastructure construction projects comply with project specifications and regulatory approvals. The role involves reviewing contractor material submissions, monitoring material usage on-site, and verifying that testing and approvals are conducted according to project and authority requirements. The engineer performs continuous field inspections, evaluates contractor testing requests, and reviews completed test reports to ensure quality and compliance. In addition, the position includes coordinating with contractor teams, supervising material delivery and usage accuracy, and supporting the Resident Engineer in monitoring construction progress. The Materials Engineer prepares technical reports related to contractual and procedural matters and ensures alignment with project schedules and quality standards throughout the construction lifecycle.

Key responsibilities
- Review and approve contractor-proposed construction materials and methods
- Monitor contractor daily activities and provide operational guidance on site
- Conduct and participate in site inspections during different stages of construction
- Follow up with authorities regarding testing and material approvals
- Review contractor testing requests and evaluate completed test reports
- Review and approve contractor technical submissions
- Monitor material delivery performance and ensure correct materials are used on site
- Coordinate with contractor supervisory teams regarding work schedules and construction methods
- Ensure compliance with contractor schedules and project timelines
- Conduct continuous field inspections to verify work progress and quality
- Consult with Resident Engineer and contractor supervision teams regarding project execution
- Prepare technical reports on contractual and procedural matters for the Resident Engineer
Experience & skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a relevant discipline
- Experience working on large construction programmes and design-and-build contracts
- Proven experience on large infrastructure or landscape projects in the region
- Strong knowledge of local construction material standards
- Ability to prioritize tasks and maintain accountability for project outcomes
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to coordinate with contractors, engineers, and project stakeholders
- Commitment to safety, ethics, and professional integrity in engineering practice
