Job description
The Chief Field Engineer role at Wood is a senior technical and leadership position responsible for overseeing and coordinating all on-site field engineering activities for large and complex oil and gas projects in Abu Dhabi. The role ensures projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in strict compliance with quality, safety, and industry standards for high-profile energy sector clients. Operating within Woodâs Oil, Gas & New Energies business, the position supports upstream and midstream oil and gas, onshore and offshore developments, gas-to-liquids projects, and decarbonization and electrification initiatives. The role involves leading field engineering teams, managing resources and budgets, conducting site inspections, resolving technical issues, reviewing engineering designs and documentation, ensuring compliance with company policies and safety protocols, collaborating with project management and infrastructure teams, communicating with clients and senior management, preparing progress reports, documenting construction activities, and driving engineering strategies to achieve technical excellence across field operations.

Key responsibilities
- Lead, manage, mentor, and guide field engineering teams across project sites
- Plan and execute field engineering activities to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget
- Allocate and manage resources including staffing, equipment, and project budgets
- Assign tasks, monitor progress, and provide performance feedback to engineering teams
- Conduct site inspections and deliver on-site technical guidance and oversight
- Implement quality control procedures and ensure compliance with standards and specifications
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues arising during project execution
- Review and approve engineering designs, technical documentation, and project plans
- Ensure compliance with industry standards, company policies, and safety regulations
- Collaborate with project management, RF teams, and infrastructure teams to support delivery
- Communicate project status, risks, and technical matters to clients, customers, and senior management
- Prepare and present project reports, updates, logs, inspection records, and findings
- Develop and manage project budgets, monitor costs, and control expenditures
- Develop and implement engineering strategies and initiatives to drive technical excellence
Experience & skills
- Engineering degree with a minimum of 20 years of experience in the oil and gas industry
- Experience working within an Oil and Gas EPC company or on large capital projects
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with excellent command of the English language
- Eligibility to obtain a CICPA pass
- Eligibility to obtain a UAE work visa
