Job description
The Officer - Transaction Monitoring (AML) is responsible for the Implementation/Tuning/Enhancement of detective controls for AML Transaction monitoring and for assisting in developing preventive controls to mitigate sanctions risks in line with Group policies and Regulatory policies and procedures. The role involves reviewing and analyzing alerts generated/created on the Transaction Monitoring System (TMS), discounting off alerts based on available information in the TMS system, extracting details from the bank's other system, and concluding alerts with justifiable rationale/comments in accordance with prescribed procedures and checklist requirements. The position supports senior management in mitigating major Regulatory and Financial crime risks posed to the bank by identifying, analyzing and proposing resolutions to AML/CTF risks. The incumbent is required to analyze and respond to internal and external STR/RFI within required response timelines, recommend cases for onward review/STR submission to the L2/reporting team with documented rationale and red flags, and escalate all unresolved AML/CTF investigation cases to the line Manager. The role operates within a banking environment covering financial products & processes such as Operations, Branch Management and Finance, requiring 2 to 3 years of AML experience, knowledge of Risk & Control, Audit and Compliance disciplines, and adherence to established regulatory frameworks governing AML Transaction monitoring and sanctions risk mitigation.

Key responsibilities
- Implement, tune and enhance detective controls for AML Transaction monitoring by configuring and optimizing scenarios within the Transaction Monitoring System (TMS), ensuring effective identification of suspicious activities and alignment with Group policies and Regulatory policies and procedures
- Assist in developing and strengthening preventive controls to mitigate sanctions risks by reviewing transaction patterns, identifying control gaps, and supporting the enhancement of AML and CTF control frameworks within the bank
- Review and analyze alerts generated or created on the Transaction Monitoring System (TMS), discount alerts based on available information within the TMS system and the bank's other system, and document detailed justifiable rationale and comments as per prescribed procedures and checklist
- Extract, validate and assess customer and transactional details from financial products & processes across Operations, Branch Management and Finance to support accurate AML Transaction monitoring conclusions
- Support senior management in mitigating major Regulatory and Financial crime risks by identifying, analyzing and proposing practical resolutions for AML/CTF risks and control deficiencies detected during alert reviews
- Analyze and respond to internal and external STR/RFI within required response timelines, ensuring complete, accurate and compliant submissions in accordance with AML/CTF investigation standards and Regulatory policies and procedures
- Recommend cases for onward review and STR submission to the L2/reporting team by clearly articulating red flags, documenting investigative steps taken, and providing well-supported rationale for escalation
- Escalate all unresolved AML/CTF investigation cases to the line Manager in a timely manner, highlighting significant sanctions risks, control weaknesses or Financial crime exposure, and assist the line Manager in assigned Transaction Monitoring and compliance-related tasks
Experience & skills
- Hold a Bachelor's Degree and or Professional qualifications in Risk & Control professions such as Audit and Compliance, demonstrating foundational knowledge in regulatory compliance and financial crime risk management
- Possess overall banking experience in financial products & processes including Operations, Branch Management and Finance, with a minimum of 2 to 3 years of AML experience specifically in AML Transaction monitoring and AML/CTF investigation
- Demonstrate hands-on experience in reviewing and analyzing alerts within a Transaction Monitoring System (TMS), discounting alerts based on documented evidence, extracting data from the bank's other system, and concluding cases with detailed justifiable rationale and comments
- Exhibit practical exposure to STR and RFI handling, including analyzing and responding to internal and external STR/RFI within required timelines and recommending cases for onward review/STR to the L2/reporting team
- Maintain strong understanding of Regulatory policies and procedures and Group policies and procedures related to AML, CTF, sanctions risks, detective controls and preventive controls within a banking environment
- Show capability to identify, analyze and propose resolutions for major Regulatory and Financial crime risks, escalate unresolved AML/CTF investigation cases to the line Manager, and support senior management in strengthening Transaction Monitoring effectiveness
- Demonstrate familiarity with Financial crime risk analysis, sanctions risk mitigation, and the operational impact of AML controls across Banking operations, Branch Management and Finance functions
