Job description
A luxury property moving from construction into operation needs one technical authority to see it through, and that's the mandate behind this Director of Engineering role. You'll serve as the primary technical liaison between project developers, consultants, contractors, local authorities and the hotel operating team during the pre-opening phase. MEP, HVAC, life safety systems, structural assets and high-spec amenities like infinity pools, sky lounges and spa facilities all need to meet Kempinski standards, municipal regulations and corporate sustainability guidelines before a single guest checks in. Site inspections, snagging, testing and commissioning of physical plant, MEP equipment, elevators and life safety infrastructure fall under this role's direct oversight. Architectural and MEP drawings, O&M manuals, warranty agreements and as-built plans all get reviewed prior to property acceptance. An asset registry and a computerised maintenance management system get built from scratch, alongside recruiting and structuring the entire engineering department. SOPs, emergency response workflows, safety protocols and preventive maintenance programs get developed for equipment, guest rooms, public spaces, back-of-house zones and exterior infrastructure. The engineering operating budget, CapEx plan and utility consumption models get managed alongside energy, water and fuel monitoring and carbon-reduction initiatives. As the hotel's lead technical authority on Fire, Life and Safety systems, you'll keep the property audit-ready and aligned with certification programs such as EarthCheck.
