Job description
The Endoscopy Nurse plays a critical role in supporting physicians during diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures. Working in a high-standard, multispecialty hospital, the nurse ensures optimal patient care throughout the pre-, intra-, and post-procedural phases. The role requires expertise in handling advanced endoscopic equipment, maintaining aseptic technique, managing sedation, and executing recovery protocols with clinical accuracy. The nurse acts as a key liaison between physicians and patients, ensuring procedural readiness, patient safety, and post-procedure continuity of care.

Key responsibilities
- Conduct pre-procedure nursing assessments including reviewing medical histories, confirming procedure eligibility, and documenting allergies or contraindications.
- Obtain informed consent and provide patients with a detailed explanation of the endoscopic procedure.
- Set up endoscopy suites and ensure all equipment is functional and sterile prior to procedures.
- Assist gastroenterologists and other specialists during procedures such as gastroscopies, colonoscopies, bronchoscopies, and biopsies.
- Monitor and document patients' vital signs and level of consciousness before, during, and after sedation.
- Administer medications within the scope of nursing practice, including sedatives and analgesics, under physician direction.
- Manage recovery room activities, monitoring patient progress, addressing side effects of sedation, and ensuring safe discharge.
- Educate patients and caregivers on post-procedural care, medication guidelines, diet restrictions, and follow-up appointments.
- Maintain detailed and accurate clinical documentation, including nursing notes, procedural checklists, and discharge summaries.
- Disinfect, reprocess, and store endoscopic instruments following hospital infection control and sterilization policies.
- Adhere to hospital protocols, Joint Commission International (JCI) standards, and local health authority guidelines.
- Support quality improvement initiatives, incident reporting, and participate in nursing audits and drills.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including anesthetists, surgeons, and infection control officers.
- Remain current with new technologies, clinical practices, and certifications related to endoscopy nursing.
Experience & skills
- Current and valid Registered Nurse license in the United Arab Emirates.
- Bachelorās degree in Nursing from a recognized institution.
- Minimum 5 years of clinical nursing experience, with at least 3 years specifically in endoscopy nursing.
- Demonstrated expertise in assisting during upper and lower GI endoscopies, bronchoscopies, and minor therapeutic procedures.
- Advanced knowledge of infection prevention, patient safety, and sterilization protocols.
- Proficiency in using electronic health record systems and documentation software.
- BLS and ACLS certifications from a recognized provider.
- Strong understanding of moderate sedation practices, including patient monitoring and response to adverse reactions.
- Ability to manage patient anxiety, explain procedures clearly, and deliver compassionate care.
- Experience in international hospital environments or JCI-accredited facilities is an advantage.
