Job description
The Senior Accountant ā Internal Finance role at Grant Thornton UAE in Dubai is a key position within the firmās internal financial operations, responsible for driving financial accuracy, operational excellence, and compliance across the organization. The position requires deep technical knowledge in accounting, financial reporting, and internal controls, supporting management in strategic decision-making through precise financial analysis and forecasting. The Senior Accountant will oversee the end-to-end expense and payable cycles, ensuring timely settlements, reconciliations, and compliance with statutory and audit requirements. The role involves preparing management reports, performance analysis, and financial forecasts, contributing to strategic financial planning and operational efficiency. This position demands full adherence to International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and local tax regulations including VAT and WHT. It also involves supporting corporate governance, implementing internal financial policies, and maintaining regulatory compliance with group policies. The candidate will work closely with cross-functional teams, vendors, and external advisors while mentoring and developing members of the local finance team. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in a Big Four or large global organization within the Middle East, with proven expertise in general ledger management, subledger operations, budgeting, and financial modeling, complemented by proficiency in Microsoft D365 or equivalent ERP platforms (SAP/Oracle). Required skills
Key responsibilities
- Improve and manage the expenses and payable cycle to ensure efficiency and control across internal operations
- Maintain strong relationships with suppliers and oversee timely settlements and reconciliations
- Support management reporting, performance analysis, financial forecasting, and planning processes
- Ensure full compliance with statutory accounting and audit requirements
- Supervise outsourced financial support teams to ensure accuracy and compliance
- Oversee WHT and VAT compliance in cooperation with internal tax teams and external advisors
- Implement corporate governance initiatives and ensure compliance with group financial policies
- Develop and manage the local finance team, fostering professional growth and performance excellence
- Assist in financial data analysis to improve internal processes and operational decision-making
- Ensure accounting accuracy and integrity of financial records under IFRS standards
Experience & skills
- Bachelorās or Masterās degree in Finance or Accounting
- Professional certification such as CPA, CA, or ACCA is mandatory
- Minimum of 5 yearsā experience in a Big Four firm or management accounting role within a large global organization in the Middle East
- Proven expertise in General Ledger and Subledger operations, VAT calculations, budgeting, and financial modelling
- Strong knowledge of IFRS and regulatory compliance standards
- Experience in audit and tax processes
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Power BI
- Familiarity with modern accounting systems and ERP platforms such as Microsoft D365, SAP, or Oracle
- Excellent written communication in English; proficiency in Arabic is an advantage
- Strong commercial acumen with ability to balance strategic and operational financial tasks
