Job description
Fuse Energy is a high-growth renewable energy startup building a fully integrated energy company spanning renewable generation (solar, wind, hydrogen), real-time power trading, distributed energy installations, and a decentralized Energy Network platform. Backed by leading global investors, Fuse Energy is on a mission to deliver a terawatt of renewable energy while strengthening grid stability and enabling the next generation of energy-intensive industries. As Head of Engineering (Platform), you will lead the design and development of the company’s core backend systems and platform infrastructure, forming the technical backbone that powers all consumer, trading, and network products. You will define and scale platform architecture, build high-performance distributed systems, and establish engineering standards that enable rapid product iteration and long-term reliability. The role requires a hands-on technical leader who can balance strategic system design with execution excellence, guide engineering best practices, and collaborate closely with product, data, and trading teams. You will oversee real-time digital modeling of renewable generation and customer demand, design scalable data pipelines for telemetry and consumption data, and ensure seamless integrations with third-party services and grid systems. This is a high-impact leadership position in a mission-driven company transforming the global energy system.
Required skills
Key responsibilities
- Own and define the long-term backend platform architecture, infrastructure roadmap, and foundational services that power all company products
- Design and scale distributed systems capable of handling high-volume real-time energy data and customer interactions
- Build and maintain a real-time digital twin of renewable generation assets and customer demand to optimize grid balancing
- Architect and manage robust data pipelines for telemetry, consumption metrics, trading signals, and system analytics
- Lead the development of integration layers, APIs, and messaging interfaces with grid operators, trading systems, and third-party platforms
- Establish and enforce engineering best practices across CI/CD, testing automation, observability, monitoring, and performance optimization
- Partner closely with product, trading, and backend teams to enable rapid iteration while maintaining system stability and scalability
- Drive infrastructure decisions including cloud architecture, Infrastructure as Code, security standards, and cost optimization strategies
- Mentor and develop senior engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence, ownership, and innovation
- Ensure platform reliability, uptime, and disaster recovery readiness to support mission-critical energy operations
Experience & skills
- Proven track record as a senior software engineer, technical lead, or platform engineering leader with strong backend focus
- Minimum 5+ years of software engineering experience, including at least 2+ years in a leadership or team management role
- Hands-on experience building and operating production-grade systems at scale with high availability requirements
- Strong expertise in system design, distributed computing, cloud-native architectures, and infrastructure management
- Deep understanding of data pipelines, event-driven systems, stream processing, and messaging frameworks
- Experience implementing CI/CD pipelines, automated testing strategies, and observability frameworks
- Ability to align cross-functional stakeholders and communicate complex technical decisions clearly
- Hands-on mindset with strong problem-solving capabilities and strategic technical decision-making skills
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools such as AWS CDK or Terraform is highly advantageous
- Familiarity with internal developer platforms, tooling, or energy/utility domain systems is considered a strong plus
