Job description
The Senior Accountant ā Financial Reporting and Tax at Omantel plays a key role in supporting the Finance Control Division in preparing, analyzing, and reporting financial statements in compliance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). Based at Omantelās Head Office in Muscat, the incumbent will assist the Senior Manager in managing monthly and quarterly financial reporting cycles, ensuring the accuracy of accounting entries, and maintaining compliance with both IFRS and local regulatory requirements. The role includes responsibility for intercompany reconciliations, journal postings, and the preparation of accounting schedules to resolve discrepancies and maintain data integrity across the general ledger. The Senior Accountant will also provide detailed financial analysis and forecasting support, working closely with management to identify and address reporting issues. The position requires active coordination with internal and external auditors to ensure smooth audit processes, as well as collaboration with the tax department to ensure timely submission of VAT and income tax filings. This role demands a strong understanding of accounting principles, analytical thinking, and hands-on expertise with ERP systems and Excel to support financial governance and reporting accuracy across Omantelās operations.

Key responsibilities
- Support the Senior Manager in preparing monthly and quarterly financial statements in compliance with IFRS standards.
- Interpret IFRS guidelines to ensure accurate and compliant accounting entries in the general ledger.
- Perform intercompany reconciliations and resolve discrepancies across financial accounts.
- Prepare detailed accounting schedules and ensure all supporting documentation is accurate and complete.
- Analyze financial statements for variances and provide financial analysis and forecasting insights to management.
- Post journal entries in the general ledger to ensure the accuracy of financial data.
- Assist with ad-hoc financial reporting tasks and respond to management queries related to accounting and reporting.
- Coordinate with internal, external, and state auditors to ensure timely and efficient completion of audit processes.
- Ensure accurate and timely VAT reporting and compliance with all statutory requirements.
- Prepare income tax schedules and provide supporting data to the tax department as required.
- Maintain close collaboration with finance and tax teams to ensure compliance with financial controls and reporting standards.
Experience & skills
- Bachelorās degree in Accounting or Finance.
- Minimum of 6 years of experience in accounting, financial reporting, or related finance roles.
- Professional accounting qualification such as ACCA, CPA, or equivalent certification.
- Strong knowledge of IFRS and its application to financial reporting processes.
- Proficiency in ERP systems and advanced Excel skills for data analysis and reporting.
- Experience with intercompany reconciliations and journal entry management.
- Familiarity with VAT, income tax, and related compliance procedures.
- Ability to analyze financial statements and identify discrepancies or areas for improvement.
- Experience collaborating with internal and external auditors to facilitate financial audits.
- Strong attention to detail, analytical thinking, and organizational skills to manage multiple reporting deliverables efficiently.
- Excellent communication skills for liaising with finance, audit, and tax teams.
