Job description
The Senior Civil & Structural Designer role at Wood in Abu Dhabi is a senior technical position within the Civil Engineering team supporting EPCM projects across the Oil, Gas & New Energies sector. The role is responsible for delivering high-quality civil and structural design and drafting outputs from concept through FEED, detailed design, and construction support, while ensuring compliance with applicable international codes, project standards, and client specifications. The position involves producing detailed 2D drawings and 3D models for site development, foundations, concrete and steel structures, pipe racks, platforms, shelters, and industrial buildings using industry-standard design tools. The role requires close coordination with multidisciplinary engineering teams, integration of vendor and third-party inputs, mentoring junior designers, supporting constructability reviews, and providing site-based design support. The position operates on large-scale international EPCM projects within oil and gas, energy transition, and decarbonization initiatives, with full-time office-based work in Abu Dhabi Engineering Center.
Required skills
Key responsibilities
- Prepare and check civil and structural design drawings including site layouts, grading, drainage, and earthworks
- Design shallow and deep foundations, equipment foundations, concrete and steel structures
- Develop pipe racks, platforms, shelters, and industrial buildings designs
- Produce 2D drawings and 3D models using AutoCAD and other applicable modeling tools
- Deliver design outputs across concept, FEED, detailed design, and construction support phases
- Interpret engineering calculations, specifications, and data sheets into accurate design deliverables
- Review and check drawings and models for quality, constructability, and compliance
- Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior designers and drafters
- Coordinate with civil, structural, piping, mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation disciplines
- Interface with vendors, subcontractors, and clients on design-related matters
- Incorporate vendor and third-party data into design deliverables
- Ensure compliance with EPCM procedures, project standards, and HSE requirements
- Support constructability reviews, model reviews, and design workshops
- Assist with quantity take-offs, material lists, and cost estimate support
- Provide construction support by responding to RFIs, issuing site instructions, and reviewing as-built drawings
- Apply international and local codes and standards including ACI, AISC, Eurocodes, BS, AS, and IS
- Ensure adherence to QA/QC processes and promote safe design principles
Experience & skills
- Hold a Diploma or Associate Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering, with Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Possess 10–15 years of experience in civil and structural design within EPCM, EPC, or consultancy environments
- Demonstrate experience on industrial, oil and gas, power, infrastructure, or mining projects
- Exhibit strong proficiency in AutoCAD and at least one 3D modeling platform
- Demonstrate solid knowledge of concrete and steel detailing, foundations, earthworks, and industrial structures
- Show ability to read and interpret engineering calculations and technical specifications
- Demonstrate experience with international EPCM projects and BIM-based workflows
- Exhibit strong coordination, communication, leadership, and mentoring skills
- Demonstrate ability to work independently and meet project deadlines
