Job description
Masdar is seeking a Senior Expert in Photovoltaic (PV) to lead technical and techno-economic analyses and design aspects for PV projects. The role includes preparing and agreeing on project specifications, budgets, and timescales with contractors, clients, or stakeholders, defining basic design, and creating or reviewing test procedures for PV plant components. The expert will conduct feasibility studies, optimize plant configurations, oversee solar resource and yield assessments, and guide EPC and O&M contracts. They will provide technical support throughout project lifecycles, support asset management post-commissioning, and maintain Masdar’s knowledge base while staying engaged with industry forums and PV technology trends.

Key responsibilities
- Conduct pre-screening and/or technical feasibility studies of PV projects including identification of technical risk. Perform concept design works for PV projects and propose optimized plant layout.
- Manage on-site solar resource assessment with ground measurement including procurement and installation processes.
- Carry out studies and optimize plant configuration for PV projects.
- Perform solar resource, energy yield assessment and data analysis by using state-of-the-art modelling tools (PV System).
- Procure and supervise geotechnical, topographical and other relevant studies for PV projects.
- Procure technical advisors for support during the bidding stage.
- Provide technical requirements to be included in all RFPs for EPC, O&M and/or plant components.
- Participate in EPC, O&M and/or main equipment contract negotiation regarding technical aspects.
- Recommend technology or infrastructure changes to improve project performance, reduce operational costs, or comply with regulations.
- Provide technical support to the delivery team, making sure the proper technical resources are in place and that the project is constructed and commissioned as per the contractual requirements in terms of scope, quality and timing.
- Provide technical support to assets management team, as required, in operational matters that may rise during the asset lifetime.
- Review monthly and annual reports from existing PV projects.
- Maintain regular contact with PV related institutions and industry forums.
- Develop and keep Masdar’s PV Power knowledge data base up to date.
- Build and maintain a network of relevant contacts to support daily activities and long-term objectives of the team.
- Engage with and monitor relationships with internal and external stakeholders in order to ensure adequate knowledge transfer and completion of services as per agreed parameters.
- Apply consistent approaches/discipline and standardized forms in line with relevant policies, processes and procedures.
- Prepare relevant reports and updates as required and to the desired standard.
- Provide management information as and when required by the line manager – this includes the production and timely provision of accurate reports in line with reporting schedules.
Experience & skills
- Master’s degree in Engineering or Renewable Energy or related field.
- Chartered Engineer status (e.g. IET, EUR Ing, PEng) is an asset.
- Project Management certification (e.g. PMP, PRINCE2,) is an asset.
- 8-10 years of experience in the PV industry (preferably with an EPC contractor, engineering firm or technical consultant) or equivalent experience.
- Knowledge of PV market players and PV components.
- Experienced user in PV Systems and basic knowledge in using AutoCAD.
- CSP technology knowledge and/or experience would be desirable.
- Exceptional communication skills and able to work in a dynamic, fast paced, diverse environment.
- Ability to prioritize actions and work within a diverse team.
