Job description
The Senior Product Specialist – META & Rare Disease at AstraZeneca KSA is responsible for driving clinical demand and supporting the commercial growth of rare disease products within the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, specifically across Riyadh and Dammam. The role focuses on building relationships with healthcare professionals (HCPs), key opinion leaders (KOLs), and other stakeholders to identify patient opportunities, deliver value propositions, and influence treatment decisions. The specialist serves as an expert in rare disease therapeutic areas, product mechanisms of action, and market dynamics. The position requires the execution of account management strategies, development of disease awareness, facilitation of educational initiatives, collaboration with medical, marketing, market access, and diagnostics teams, and compliance with ethical, legal, and company policies. Success in this role contributes to increasing patient access to life-changing therapies and advancing AstraZeneca’s leadership in rare diseases.

Key responsibilities
- Engage healthcare professionals (HCPs) to promote knowledge of rare disease medicines, their benefits, efficacy, safety profiles, and approved treatment protocols using science-driven, balanced messaging
- Proactively identify new patients and patients on therapy targets to generate clinical demand for the rare disease portfolio
- Achieve or exceed sales objectives within the assigned region, ensuring accurate tracking and timely reporting of sales activities
- Demonstrate deep clinical, technical, and scientific knowledge in relevant disease states and product mechanisms of action
- Develop and implement market development strategies, tactics, and action plans to improve patient identification and diagnosis within the territory
- Increase disease awareness among key target groups through targeted initiatives and educational programs
- Identify and establish a network of key opinion leaders (KOLs) within the territory to support product adoption and advocacy
- Liaise with cross-functional teams including medical, marketing, market access, and diagnostic departments to develop long-term relationships with KOLs, HCP accounts, and other external stakeholders
- Organize workshops and educational events to facilitate knowledge sharing among relevant HCPs
- Collaborate with Sales Manager and Franchise Manager to develop and implement strategies to meet promotional objectives
- Manage allocated budgets effectively to support campaigns and activities
- Share insights and information to strengthen brand positioning, promotional efforts, and patient access to treatment
- Ensure rare disease products are optimally utilized in line with national and local guidelines and product licenses
- Demonstrate adherence to business ethics, company values, and compliance with the Code of Conduct and marketing procedures
- Perform other duties within the scope of the role as assigned by the Line Manager
Experience & skills
- University degree in Medical Sciences, Pharmacy, or related field
- Minimum 2 years of experience in hospital business, preferably in niche markets or orphan drugs
- Experience in neurology or metabolic fields, with focus on rare diseases preferred
- Proven track record of delivering consistent top-tier sales results
- Experience in sales of rare disease products preferred
- Project management experience
- Strong passion for science and commitment to positively impact patient outcomes
- Curiosity and learning agility with proactive and solution-oriented approach
- Strong influencing skills to engage stakeholders in complex clinical environments, including mid- and senior-level specialty care professionals
