Job description
The Head of Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) at GEMS Al Barsha National School will be responsible for supporting the schoolâs Vision and Mission while ensuring adherence to all school policies, academic standards, and pastoral support frameworks within the Primary school. The role requires providing leadership for Early Years education aligned with GEMS Core Values and ensuring excellence in teaching and learning standards in line with the National Curriculum for England and UAE National Agenda targets. The position involves shaping and implementing the educational strategy for the school, formulating school aims and objectives, establishing policies for achieving these objectives, and managing staff and resources to deliver high-quality education. The Head of EYFS will monitor progress toward academic targets, ensure high student achievement, and maintain accountability for performance outcomes. The role includes managing budgets, undertaking teaching responsibilities, supporting staff development, and promoting professional learning aligned with GEMS Education leadership training and professional development frameworks. The position also involves contributing to pastoral support systems, safeguarding compliance, and ensuring adherence to school policies. Key responsibilities
- Lead the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) provision by supporting the school Vision and Mission, implementing school policies, maintaining academic standards, and ensuring effective pastoral support across the Primary school in alignment with GEMS Core Values and organizational expectations
- Ensure high academic standards within the Early Years Foundation Stage by implementing the National Curriculum for England, supporting student achievement objectives, and contributing to the UAE National Agenda targets through continuous monitoring and improvement initiatives
- Formulate the aims and objectives of the Early Years department and establish policies and procedures required to achieve these objectives while ensuring alignment with overall school strategy and educational priorities
- Manage staff and resources within the Early Years Foundation Stage including workforce planning, performance monitoring, professional development planning, and allocation of teaching and learning resources to ensure effective delivery of curriculum objectives
- Monitor progress toward achievement of academic goals by tracking student performance, reviewing educational outcomes, evaluating teaching effectiveness, and implementing improvement plans aligned with school objectives
- Manage departmental budgets and oversee financial planning for Early Years operations while ensuring efficient utilization of resources and compliance with school financial policies and governance requirements
- Assist in shaping and implementing the educational strategy for the school by collaborating with senior leadership, contributing to school improvement planning, and supporting long-term academic development initiatives
- Undertake teaching responsibilities and additional professional duties as delegated by the Principal while supporting safeguarding, pastoral care, staff development, and continuous improvement initiatives across the Early Years Foundation Stage
Experience & skills
- Hold a fully certified teaching qualification including B.Ed, PGCE, PGDE or equivalent, demonstrating eligibility to teach within Early Years Foundation Stage and Primary school settings within an international school environment
- Demonstrate extensive experience with the National Curriculum for England including curriculum planning, delivery, assessment, and monitoring of Early Years Foundation Stage academic standards and student progress
- Show experience supporting school Vision and Mission implementation including policy adherence, academic leadership, pastoral support frameworks, and alignment with GEMS Core Values and organizational expectations
- Demonstrate leadership experience in managing staff and resources including performance management, professional development planning, team supervision, and workforce coordination within educational environments
- Possess experience in formulating school aims and objectives, establishing policies, and implementing educational strategy initiatives to support school improvement and academic excellence
- Demonstrate experience in monitoring student performance, tracking academic progress, evaluating teaching and learning outcomes, and implementing improvement strategies aligned with UAE National Agenda targets
- Show experience managing departmental budgets, allocating resources, and supporting operational planning within school environments while ensuring compliance with financial governance requirements
- Provide UK-enhanced DBS or equivalent police clearance and demonstrate compliance with safeguarding requirements and commitment to promoting student welfare within international school settings
