Job description
The Senior Engineer β Platform Databases role at First Abu Dhabi Bank (FAB) based in Abu Dhabi focuses on managing mission-critical Oracle database infrastructure supporting banking and financial services applications operating in highly available 24x7 environments. The role involves installation, configuration, and management of Oracle RAC and Oracle ASM environments on Unix-like platforms including AIX and Linux, as well as patching Oracle infrastructure in production RAC and Data Guard disaster recovery environments. The position includes implementation of Oracle Transparent Data Encryption (TDE) for database security, managing database infrastructure according to architectural guidelines, and ensuring continuous availability for off-the-shelf and internally developed applications. The role requires installation, configuration, monitoring, upgrading, and maintenance of Oracle databases in both production and non-production environments, supporting data center failover, high availability disaster recovery using Oracle Data Guard (ODG) and Oracle GoldenGate (OGG), and participating in database maintenance and disaster recovery activities. Responsibilities also include OS-level scripting for automation, database consolidation and migration to new hardware and platforms, physical database implementation, storage structure management, replication, high availability, and disaster recovery solutions. The position requires proactive and reactive performance monitoring, troubleshooting Level 2 and Level 3 escalations, database capacity planning, trend analysis, predictive resource planning, and structured reporting. The role also involves collaborating with infrastructure engineering, product development, business operations, and technical operations teams to meet SLAs and performance targets. Additional responsibilities include data modeling, database specification development, evaluation and implementation of DBA tools, and supporting performance monitoring, tuning, recovery, and database change management processes. The role requires strong Oracle database fundamentals, Oracle GoldenGate fundamentals, Oracle Data Guard fundamentals, Oracle database security management, Unix platform skills, networking, storage, tiered application environments, and scripting skills including Shell, Perl, and Python. Preferred qualifications include Oracle Certified Professional (OCP) certification, experience in financial institutions, and the ability to lead technical DBA teams in complex environments.

- Install, configure, and manage Oracle RAC and Oracle ASM clustered environments on Unix platforms including AIX and Linux ensuring high availability and performance
- Patch and upgrade Oracle infrastructure including RAC clusters and databases in production environments and Data Guard disaster recovery environments
- Implement Oracle Transparent Data Encryption (TDE) and manage database security in highly critical 24x7 environments
- Manage, support, and maintain Oracle database technology infrastructure ensuring continuous availability for mission-critical applications and participate in on-call rotation
- Install, configure, monitor, upgrade, and maintain Oracle databases across production and non-production environments
- Support data center failover and high availability disaster recovery environments using Oracle Data Guard and Oracle GoldenGate replication solutions
- Develop and maintain OS-level automation scripts using Shell, Perl, or Python for database automation and application maintenance
- Perform database consolidation, migration to new hardware platforms, capacity planning, performance tuning, troubleshooting Level 2 and Level 3 incidents, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver database services within SLAs
Experience & skills
- Hold Bachelorβs degree in Computer Science or Information Technology with strong database engineering background
- Possess Oracle Certified Professional (OCP) certification preferred with at least 9 years of experience managing Oracle databases version 11g and above
- Demonstrate expertise in Oracle RAC installation, configuration, patching, and clustered database administration
- Demonstrate strong experience with Oracle ASM configuration and administration and maintenance of clustered environments
- Possess experience implementing high availability environments using Oracle Data Guard and Oracle GoldenGate replication topology
- Demonstrate working knowledge of Oracle Transparent Data Encryption (TDE) and Oracle database security management
- Demonstrate strong Unix platform skills including AIX and Linux with scripting expertise in Shell, Perl, or Python and proficiency in PL/SQL development
- Possess experience in financial institutions preferred with ability to lead DBA teams, manage complex database environments, and resolve advanced technical issues
