Job description
AIQ, a venture between Presight (G42) and ADNOC, is building software and AI products for well surveillance, artificial-lift optimisation and autonomous production, and it needs a production engineer who has made real wells perform better. Reporting to Christophe Van Laer as a principal individual contributor in Abu Dhabi, you lead the engineering for ESP, gas-lift and naturally flowing well workflows. Software engineers, AI scientists and controls specialists depend on your domain input as products move from diagnosis and recommendations to validated closed-loop operation. Well-performance models based on nodal analysis, inflow and outflow relationships and fluid properties need building, calibrating and challenging, in partnership with the PTA SME. Requirements for virtual flow metering, sensor validation, anomaly detection and equipment-health models also come from you. Operating practice gets translated into decision logic for start-up, shutdown, recovery and optimisation, always preserving independent protection and operator override. Validation runs from historical replay and simulation through advisory pilots to supervised closed-loop trials, with field results measured against credible baselines. At least 12 years of relevant experience is expected, including recent hands-on work with producing wells, deep ESP engineering and substantive gas-lift optimisation. PROSPER, PIPESIM, DesignRite or equivalent tools, along with historian or SCADA data, should be familiar, and closed-loop, APC, Python/SQL or offshore Middle East experience would add weight.
Required skills
Key responsibilities
- Define ESP surveillance and optimisation workflows covering pump selection, operating range, intake conditions, free gas, motor loading, vibration, VSD settings and failure diagnosis
- Develop gas-lift and naturally flowing well workflows covering injection performance, valve behaviour, unloading, instability, choke response and network backpressure
- Build, calibrate and challenge well-performance models using nodal analysis, inflow and outflow relationships, fluid properties and equipment data
- Distinguish reservoir or skin changes from lift, wellbore and measurement effects with the PTA SME
- Specify engineering requirements for virtual flow metering, sensor validation, anomaly detection and equipment-health models
- Translate operating practices into decision logic for start-up, shutdown, recovery and optimisation with controls and OT specialists
- Lead engineering validation from historical replay and simulation through advisory pilots to supervised closed-loop trials
- Support field trials, investigate failures and measure production, energy and reliability outcomes against credible baselines
- Document lessons as reusable requirements, benchmark cases and operator guidance
- Demonstrate products to customers and support their adoption
Experience & skills
- Hold a degree in Petroleum Engineering, or a related engineering degree with substantial petroleum production engineering experience
- Bring typically 12 or more years of relevant experience, including recent hands-on work with producing wells
- Show deep ESP engineering expertise across selection, diagnosis, optimisation and troubleshooting
- Demonstrate substantive gas-lift operating or optimisation experience beyond a single equipment vendor
- Apply strong nodal analysis, multiphase flow and well-performance capability
- Deliver digital well surveillance, remote optimisation or automation workflows into routine field use
- Interpret PTA results and apply reservoir pressure, productivity and skin changes to lift decisions
- Use PROSPER, PIPESIM, DesignRite or equivalent tools alongside historian, SCADA and well test data
- Set safe operating envelopes and take part in operational change reviews
- Write clear requirements in professional English that engineers and developers can implement
- Offer closed-loop deployment, APC, hybrid AI modelling, Python/SQL, or offshore Middle East experience (preferred)
