Job description
The Staff Nurse in the Diabetes Clinic is responsible for delivering direct, patient-centered care to adult and geriatric populations through evidence-based nursing processes. This includes performing age-specific assessments, creating individualized care plans, and collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams to manage patient needs. The nurse will carry out and interpret Point-of-Care (POC) testing for HbA1C and Ketone levels, providing immediate and critical diagnostic data. The role requires meticulous documentation, effective prioritization of care, coordination with Flight Operations, adherence to Joint Commission International Accreditation (JCIA) standards, and participation in Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) activities. The position also involves ensuring the proper handling and administration of controlled drugs, maintaining clinical competencies, participating in educational programs, and supporting department goals and safe environmental practices.
Required skills
Key responsibilities
- Provide direct, age-specific nursing care using appropriate assessment techniques
- Perform continual assessment of patient and family physical and psychological needs
- Develop, coordinate, and revise care plans based on individual patient needs
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams for comprehensive patient care
- Initiate appropriate transfer plans and anticipate potential problems
- Document all relevant data according to departmental standards
- Ensure availability and proper maintenance of supplies and equipment
- Perform clerical duties as required
- Participate in mandatory education and unit projects
- Maintain a safe patient and staff environment
- Handle and document administration of controlled and semi-controlled drugs
- Ensure completion of unit competencies and participate in CQI activities
- Perform Point-of-Care (POC) testing for HbA1C and Ketone levels
- Provide clinical training and development for UAE nationals where applicable
Experience & skills
- Bachelor's degree in nursing (minimum three years full-time) or equivalent
- Degree in Nursing (minimum two years) with registration from Canada, USA, UK, Ireland, South Africa, New Zealand, or Australia
- Minimum of two years post-graduate experience in a Diabetic/Endocrine setting
- Valid License/Registration to practice in home country or last country of employment
- Valid Basic Life Support (BLS) or BCLS Certification
- Knowledge of age-appropriate care and development needs
- Skills in patient assessment and prioritization of care
- Compliance with UAE regulations for UAE and non-UAE national graduates
